Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. Happy Monday! Today we're loving this gorgeous asymmetrical knit jacket from Armani Collezioni. Love the ruffle, love the rosette, and love the dots. The short, fitted look can be a challenge — we'd wear it with wide trousers (as styled here) or perhaps with an A-line or tullip skirt. Fabulous. It's $1,340 at Saks. Pleat-Trim Knit Jacket Seen a great piece you'd like to recommend? Please e-mail editor@corporette.com with “TPS” in the subject line. (L-2)Sales of note for 10.10.24

Something about it says clownish to me. Perhaps it’s the styling with the wide pants. I’d like to see it with a fitted black sheath.

I was thinking “Something about it says grandma to me.” But then I pictured a red foam nose on the model and now agree with your take.

The giant flower also says “come too close and I might squirt you”

To me, it says “I will make you look horribly, horribly fat unless you are 6 feet tall and 120 pounds or less.” The high-waisted hammer pants and cropped jacket are a BAD idea for anyone with hips.

LOVE!
It’s interesting how this piece has so many feminine details but doesn’t come off as overdone or cloying.

Ditto. I like this a lot.
Sharon
I like this a lot. I don’t know that it would be flattering on me, as I have a long torso and don’t do well with shorter jackets, but I like the find.

Lurrve. What a pity I cannot justify this purchase at my biz casual office. I would wear it with a pencil skirt though.
Legally Brunette
It’s ok. I like the polka dots, I don’t like how it is so short.
Lawgirl
I do polka dot dresses (luv!) but not jackets. Super cropped, asymmetrical ruffle lapel, polka dots and a bow = too much going on, IMHO. Reminds me of stuff I see at Dress Barn (no snark intended; I do have a few pieces from there!).
Anonymous
Who picked the name Dress Barn. What an awful name for a women’s clothing store!
Lawgirl
@Anonymous: I know! There was also this place called Frugal Fannies in DC/MD/VA, which actually had some nice stuff too ;-D

It’s beautiful, but not for work. In my part of the country, people don’t wear something so overtly “stylish” anywhere, ever. Funny thing is, on this page there is an ad for Anne Klein suits showing a gray number which would be perfect for my work life. Nice simple classic lines, no trim.
Sharon
What’s your part of the country, 75? I’m in Chicago and this would be just fine downtown.

I have had a a similar Armani jacket for several years – without the rosette. The silhouette does look very , very, good with wide-legged pants. I’m not sure there’s anything to be done about the rosette though:). I’m just not a fan of big fabric flowers at the moment, having seen too many plastered to too many heads in Anthropologie catalogs etc.
SiouxsieLaw
Great find. I like black and polka dots.
A.M.
Kill me if I ever wear anything with a rosette.
Thankfully, the pesky things can usually be quite easily removed. Still not liking this jacket even without it, if it were a longer boyfriend style blazer or even just buttoned all the way down (am I the only one who dislikes open flaps on jackets??) I would like it more.

Unrelated advice-seeking on the issue of bags.
My spring/summer work bag is a light buff pink color and I love it. However, it’s taken a little wear and tear and has at least one visible scratch in the leather. Also…sorry this is kind of gross…the area right below the strap, on one side, shows a bit of staining from spending the summer with my underarm walking around hot and humid DC.
My question: can I expect a professional cleaning/treament to take care of these issues, or do I need to (sadly) start looking for a replacement?
FEF
I would give it a try. Worst case scenario, the bag would look at least a little better, and you probably wouldn’t be out more than $15. The local shoe repair store rescued my favorite bag a few years ago. The bag is made of the softest cream-colored leather and a purple pen leaked inside the purse, bleeding through the lining and staining the leather (the stain was visible from the outside). They cleaned to make the stain less noticeable and then used the spray-paint-like stuff that they use on shoes. It looked as good as new when they returned it to me. The best part was, they only charged me $5!!!

Thanks FEF.

love the jacket’s shape and fit, but leery of the dots & rosette
nice to think about though
Anon for this one...
Hi-jack…
So my hubby and I will likely be moving to Southern California in the coming year. We’re completely unfamiliar with the area so I was wondering if anyone could recommend certain areas to look for housing/areas to definitely avoid in the area around Camp Pendleton? Any suggestions on things to see and do once we get there would be awesome too! TIF.
anon
I love So Cal! Areas to look at near Camp Pendleton are: Carlsbad, LaCosta and surrounding areas. I love Del Mar and LaJolla although they may be too far south for you.
Do check out your commute as the 5 and 15 freeways are very busy.
Housing is plentiful although still expensive depending where you are coming from. Very excited for you.
M
I am a fan – lovely jacket. And great fit. Would look great with a black pencil skirt.

Love the comment about the name of Dress Barn. I drove by one recently with my young daughter and she asked, “Why would anyone want to buy dresses from a barn?”
Lawgirl
Teehee! Smart kid! LOL.
Shayna
I remember asking my mother the same thing! I still wonder about it every time I drive past one actually…
v
Didn’t they used to sell exclusively plus size clothing too? Who’s idea was that??
v
*Whose* idea was that, that is.
Eponine
They have a sister chain that sells only plus sizes called Dress Barn Woman. I guess only men are allowed to shop in the regular Dress Barn :).
legalchef
I’ve never understood the Misses/Woman categorization. To me, Misses sounds like it would be more for Juniors, though it usually just means non-plus sized. And, I’m not plus-sized but I am a woman…
Ru
Yes, this bugs me, too. I never know what section I have to go to in order to find clothes that fit me.
Suze
Too short and too much with the ruffle/rosette. Longer and less frou frou, maybe….
s in Chicago
Too many hours at the computer are taking a toll on my neck. My MD says (among other things) I should switch my purse to something lighter. Currently, the day-to-day purse is a rather large leather Kate Spade that I can stuff with an umbrella or even a folder or two. I’ve never been too much into fabric or small bags, but it appears I may have to change one or both of these preferences.
Any suggestions on something that is light weight but will still look polished at work, keeping in mind that fall is under the corner? Do any of you have a fave? I’m looking under $400 preferably.
AIMS
Not sure how serious you want your bag to be, but I was in Lord & Taylor recently and was surprised by how much I liked the new nylon D&B totes. They seem to have scaled back from the Coach-ification of a few years back & were very classic and understated again.
I almost got this one

Was also considering the hobo style.
They have various others. Well within the budget, and L&T is having a big promotion 15% off all reg & sale items.

Or you could stick with the Kate Spade . . . http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=449624&CategoryID=19995

I really like this jacket. I think it would really flatter my figure!
Janet
This piece says to me “I don’t really want that promotion. If I did, I wouldn’t dress like a birthday clown”
Fail.

You know what – I do think that jacket would look good in downtown Chicago (the “Loop”) – quite a bit larger city than where I live. But I can’t see it in NYC – too fussy.
