Suit of the Week: White House | Black Market

summer skirt suitFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

Before everyone gets excited and wonders if this is a reversible suit (which would be kind of awesome, yes?) I should be clear: this is two suits.  There’s a white one with black lines, which first caught my eye, and then I decided I liked the black one with white lines better.  Both are available at White House | Black Market in regular sizes 0-16; the white one comes in petite sizes as well; the black one is an online exclusive (and does not come in petite sizes.)  Which do you like better, ladies?  Both look great to me for lightweight summer skirt suits.  The black jacket (Piped Jacket) is $150, and the skirt (Contrast Black Suit Pencil Skirt) is $88; the white jacket (The Piped Long Sleeve White and Black Jacket) is $150, and the white skirt (Black and White Piped Pencil Skirt) is $88.

Here’s are a few similar plussize options.  (Psst, don’t forget to check out new page featuring lots of plus-size workwear.)

Coffee Break: Caelina Pumps

Enzo Angiolini Caelina PumpsThese pumps from Enzo Angiolini look great — I love the squared off details on the vamp, and the d’Orsay styling looks chic.  The shoe is available in both black and white stripes (pictured) as well as a plain beige for $99 at Zappos.  Enzo Angiolini Caelina

Update: Drat, just realized these are available in very limited sizes.  Amazon has a few more sizes in different colors, and Macy’s has a very similar shoe in a variety of sizes and colors.  (And, wow, Nordstrom has them on sale for $59.)

Coffee Break: Boutique Tote

Hynes Eagle Boutique Tote | CorporetteA friend of mine just got this bag, and I have to say, I’m pretty impressed for a $30 bag. The brand has a ton of nice looking, well-reviewed, stylish bags, and many of them have intelligent little details, like colored linings, interior pockets, and more.  For today’s Coffee Break, I liked the look of this 15″x5″x11″ tote, with handles as well as a cross strap — the bright red color looks lovely, and if you’re on the fence about such a bright color, the price will certainly help you take the plunge: it’s $27 at Amazon (eligible for Prime — and also available in brown).  Hynes Eagle Boutique Tote

Coffee Break: The Love Letter Necklace

Vanessa Mooney The Love Letter Necklace | CorporetteSo. OK. I am really enjoying the new show Younger… but I am now starting to have a necklace complex. Why is the 43-year-old uptight editor always wearing huge statement necklaces (some of which I quite like)? Is it a comical, older-lady-only thing? Do we, like, need it to hide our cleavage wrinkles or something? (And, sigh, I just got a new Alexis Bittar necklace on Gilt, too.) If delicate necklaces are more your speed, then I like the look of this one from Vanessa Mooney… the dangly spike pendants look lovely. The necklace is $146 at Shopbop. (If you’re still into statement necklaces, though, then here are two nice ones at Last Call.)

Thursday’s TPS Report: ‘Yara’ Textured Clean-Cut Shirt

Reiss Yara Textured Clean-Cut Shirt | CorporetteOur daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I feel like we’ve had a ton of white blouses on here lately, but there are so many good ones out right now! I like this textured, fluid blouse from Reiss — available in navy as well — it looks simple but chic, and I love that it’s machine washable. It’s in the Reiss Outlet — it was $180, but is now marked to $90. Reiss ‘Yara’ Textured Clean-Cut Shirt

Suit of the Week: Loft

women interview suitFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

I’ve been eyeing Loft’s Custom Stretch suiting for a few weeks now for a possible Suit of the Week — but something more fun always seems to win out over the basic fabrics available there. So I was excited to see this navy linen skirt suit (available exclusively online), which looks like more of a fun suit. I like the slightly heathered/space-dyed look to the fabric, and the simple, classic shapes look great for spring, summer, and early fall. The jacket (Custom Stretch Blazer) is $138, and the skirt (Loft Custom Stretch Pencil Skirt) is $69.50. The jacket is available in petite, tall, and regular sizes 00-16; the skirt is available in petites and regular sizes 00-14.

Here’s a plus-size option (jacket + skirt).
