The Hunt: Great Cashmere Sweaters

cashmere-sweaters2017 Update: Check out our latest discussion of the most affordable cashmere for work!

Sure, we all know what basics professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.

Cashmere is a must for any working woman — it’s warm (great for the freezing office!), a bit luxurious, and (shhh) usually Woolite/delicate-cycle friendly.  We haven’t done a roundup of cashmere sweaters in a while (2014, 2012), and so many of the great ones are on sale that I thought today would be a great day to discuss it.

Ladies, have you bought any great cashmere sweaters recently?  Which are your favorite brands for cashmere in general?

Weekend Open Thread

Anthropologie Jacaranda TopSomething on your mind? Chat about it here.

This top is a bit casual for wearing with a suit, but I do love it for the weekend, or even a casual office (with a suiting separate, though, like trousers or a pencil skirt). I love the deep oranges and red florals in the top — how rare is that for me?! — and I like that they’re set against a gray tee. It’s mashine washable, available in regular and petites, and $78. Frugal Friday: Secret Sweater Layered Cardigan

The Grommet Secret Sweater Layering Cardigan | CorporetteOur daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

In general I’m a fan of The Grommet for clever little inventions I never knew existed, so I was excited to get the email about this “secret sweater,” designed for layering beneath a blazer (or wearing on its own). It seems like a great response to the common reader question of how to look professional when it’s freezing in your office. I like that it’s designed to be packable, too, which helps you adjust on the fly. It’s $39.95 at The Grommet, available in a variety of colors. Secret Sweater Layered Cardigan

Thursday’s TPS Report: A-Line Jersey Wrap Dress

Lirola A-Line Jersey Wrap Dress | CorporetteOur daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

There is a long-sleeved version of this dress, too, but for some reason I’m liking the 3/4-sleeve one better. It’s machine washable, available in 18 colors, and the seller will work with you to customize the fit. It’s $99 at Etsy. Lirola A-Line Jersey Wrap Dress

Here are two plus-size options (one, two).

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Piped-Trim Printed Silk Blouse

Vince Piped-Trim Printed Silk BlouseOur daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Neiman Marcus has some great sales going now — but lucky sizes abound. I like this silk blouse from Vince, which looks kind of perfect for tucking in, layering beneath, or even wearing untucked with cigarette pants. It’s a great discount: it was $325, but is now $113 — very limited sizes, though. Vince Piped-Trim Printed Silk Blouse

Psst: this baby is down to $103, also in limited sizes and colors.

Here are a couple of lower-priced options (one, two) and plus-size alternatives (one, two).

Coffee Break: 75mm Pointy Toe Pump

Rockport Total Motion 75mm Pointy Toe PumpI love the textured “python” version of these well-reviewed pumps from Rockport. The shoes are part of their Total Motion line that uses adidas sports technology to provide shock absorbing heel cushioning.  I like that they all four colors come in wide versions, and the 3″ heel is perfect.  They’re $139.95 at Zappos (but note that 6pm has a few versions — including a nice purple patent — for $85-$112).
