Thursday’s TPS Report: Bright Side Blouse
Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
We're normally against bowties, but we're digging this bright silk blouse from Anthropologie. We like the unusual color, the cool “waterfall” detailing on the sleeves, and, God help us, even the loosely tied bowtie. We wish the blouse were long enough to tuck in, but that's just us. We'd wear it with gray trousers and a navy cardigan, perhaps. It's $98 at Anthropologie (most sizes available on 1/22, for some reason). Bright Side Blouse

that color strikes me as remarkably difficult to wear for most people.
Love the blouse, but the color is NMS. Orange is a difficult color for many people to wear I think, at least for me.
I’m of the school that thinks orange is vastly underrated; I like it. But $98 seems a bit steep to me, as does much of Anthrop0logie’s pricing.
Agreed re: the price! That beautiful Lauren dress yesterday was $140, and all you get here for $98 is a top (that appears to require a cami underneath)? No thanks!
100% agree.
Same here; I’m consistently disappointed with Anthropologie’s quality. Wait for things to go on sale; they usually do.
Nah, I’ll pass.
I would never be able to tuck this blouse in, but I was under the impression that silky shirts should be tucked. Why are so many silky shirts so short?
The dry clean only stopped me dead in my tracks, but otherwise, I love the color. I’d wear it with lots of black and at least one amazing piece of jewelry.
Orange is a great color on blondes! And I love it on me (medium skin, brown eyes, hair looks good in brown, red or blonde). I’m not a tucker, but I still think I’d find this shirt too short, but I do LOVE it otherwise!
I think it depends more on your skin tone than hair color. I look good in some oranges and horrible in others. With the bad oranges, the effect is disturbing. It’s like I’ve suddenly developed horrific skin and arm cellulite. My skin looks greenish and reddish at the same time. I would never order any oranges online because it’s too hard to tell how each shade will look.
I think this color would look gorgeous on people with darker skin and the style is cute. It may be hard to pull off if you are long waisted since this shirt looks a bit short.
I think pretty much anyone can wear orange. Like red, I think it’s a matter of finding the right shade for your skintone. From the looks of the picture, there seems to be a bit of pink in the coloring – kind of a coral color. That color would actually probably be flattering on just about everyone.
As a fair-skinned blonde, I would totally wear it.
And if I remember correctly (from watching WAY too much What Not to Wear while in college), coral is actually one of the most universally flattering colors, which many women seem to think they can’t wear.
That color reminds me of summers at the beach. Like the outside of a Dreamsicle…
I get so many compliments when I wear anything orange, melon or salmon, so it’s a dominant shade in my wardrobe. I want to love this blouse but the tie hits at an area that does my busty figure no favors, so I’ll have to pass on this one.
I love orange and it happens to be a really good color on me, but I recognize that I’m the minority. I like that this top has a bit of a vintage feel to it (the loose bowtie look reminds me of my mothers closet in the late 70s/early 80s) without looking costume-y. Price actually seems pretty reasonable for Anthropologie.
I’d want to try it on, though, to see about the length. I’m a frequent “un-tuck”-er, but I’m so short waisted that I look like I’ve gained 20 lbs if a shirt falls too short on me.
I love this color and it would look really good on my coloring — medium/dark brown skin. No sure what I think of this bow though — would have to try it on.
I have several Odille tops and really love them. They are well-made, good quality fabric, and look great. They are all also very tailored to the body – if you’re wondering about sizing, I am a C cup and usually wear a 6 or 8, but in this brand I am a definite 8. I’ll probably get this one. Thanks for the rec!
I love this top. Would defnitely have to try it on because I am long waisted, but it is super fun and bright. Thanks C!
To the poster who said it reminded her of the outside of a Dreamsicle–that is exactly the thought I had :)

My issue with the shirt is the sleeves. It’s basically a tank top with a little material to cover the shoulders, with no sleeve portion for the underside of your arms. (Are these cap sleeves? Not sure on the terminology). I don’t like those kinds of sleeves because (1) I don’t always have perfectly smooth / non-irritated armpits, and (2) I feel like tank tops, where the edge rubs into my armpit, cause me to sweat more than a normal t shirt. So I would expect to have a much harder time avoiding pit stains on this shirt, especially given the pastel-ish color. Maybe I just have weird armpit issues!
I switched to Dove because the scent of the cucumber one is really soft, but I have noticed that I NEVER notice armpit issues anymore. Maybe the commercials about softening it up are true?
If you have had your colors done professionally and are really sure you can wear this shade of orange, go for it, but save this one for summer (unless you are in Florida).
I think that having your “colors” and “seasons” professionally done seems rather outdated. Don’t know about any one else but around Jan and Feb. winter becomes unbearably dreary for me and nothing brightens my mood more than wearing a pop of beautiful color.
Lots of good things are outdated: Mozart, meatloaf, movies at the theater. Some outdated things might be nice to recapture.
I agree. No one is suggesting that everyone wear dreary colors in January. Knowing the right colors for your skintone will never be outdated. Neither are Mozart or movies at the theater! Been around for a while, yes, but never outdated.
As for meatloaf – there is a newish “meatloaf cupcake” shop that opened up in Chicago! Haven’t tried it, but I hear it’s good. :-)
Who says Mozart is outdated? I’m in my early twenties and I listen to him religiously, as do lots of people. I’ve never met anyone who has had “their colors done” by “a professional,” though, nor have I heard of anyone who isn’t a socialite/debutante-type doing that. I’ve figured out what works for my skin tone by trying things on and getting feedback from friends, mom, etc.
I suspect Anne is in the same age range I am (mid forties) and a lot of us who came of age in the mid-eighties got our colors done. It was a pretty common thing.
I don’t swear by it, but I have found it useful. But, I’ve also found that mirroring my eye color is very flattering. I have green eyes and have found that any green — whether it’s moss, emerald, jade, leaf, or even khaki — brings compliments on me.
I actually really like this blouse. But then again, I am in Florida where I can wear pretty much any color, pretty much any time! :)
I do have to say that in the perennial “does this make me look too young?” debate, this type of shirt strikes me as very young.
Where would one go to get their colors done? I’m in my mid-late 20s and I’ve never even heard of such a service, but actually I’m quite interested!
just as an add-on: does 27 count as mid or late 20s? :)
I think 27 still counts as mid-twenties. 28, moving into late twenties. IMO
Not that it really matters :)
I don’t know today, but years ago, you’d go to some woman who had a bunch of color swatches that she’d lay against your skin and then she’d proclaim you to be a winter, spring, summer or fall. I’m a winter, though I have light brown hair and green eyes and many winters are classically dark-haired / olive complected. It’s apparently because I have a dark rim around my green eyes. Go figure. But, it does explain why I do better in white than in cream, why plum and brick look good on me and coral doesn’t, and why I can do aqua or turquoise when teamed with kiwi and brown but not by itself.
