Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
Reader D wrote in to suggest this lovely neutral shoe from Chie Mihara. As she noted, “I have these and they are AMAZING. They go with everything and the gold strap adds terrific interest and focus.”
We like the four different neutral tones, as well as the walkable heel. They're on sale at the moment at Piperlime, too, for $219 (formerly $370). Women's shoes/bags: Chie Mihara Ishan – Sand and peach

El
I do not think these shoes are appropriate for a corporate environment
Kit
I agree with El. They look sort of art student-y to me. Too much going on, not “classic” at all.
L
sorry, C. i normally like when you take a little risk with the corporate wardrobe, but i don’t think there’s anything redeeming about these shoes.
Jennifer
These look fun and comfy, but I’m afraid I absolutely agree with the first comment- not appropriate for most corporate environments.
Seventh Sister
I’m going to respectfully disagree on regional grounds. I like these and think they would be just fine out here on the West Coast, provided the rest of the outfit is pretty conservative. Is the pink less pink or more pink in real life?
LPC
It would be great to know the context of these submissions. What kind of position does she have? In what type of office does she work? In what area of the country?
Cat
Agreeing with the above – multiple colors + very round (= more casual) toe + large heel is just a little much for my office (mid-atlantic, biglaw).
@LPC – like the idea!
Jay
I think they look kind of like clown shoes. Maybe okay for a Friday or after work, but not in my office.
lawyergrrl
Horrible — in New York & everywhere.
S
Love the colors but the style would be all wrong for my conservative office.
D
Well, I’m D, and I’m a litigation attorney in Portland, Oregon at the second largest general practice firm in the city (125 attorneys). West Coast is definitely more casual, and even open-toed shoes are worn by attorneys here. These are middle-of-the-line conservative here, and have garnered quite a few compliments already. If you don’t like them, don’t buy them!
M
I like them and I could definitely see people in my office wearing them (SF office of large law firm), though I wouldn’t as a summer. I guess it’s a West coast thing.
L
Don’t like them for work, but it’s not so much that they’re inappropriate as that they’re ugly.
LPC
It’s also true that litigators can be like salespeople. As long as you win a lot you have a fair amount of leeway in what you wear.
A
I’m with L.
AC
Well, I don’t like them. Apart from that, though, they also would not go over at the office (in my case, a mid-size litigation firm in South Florida). Gold? Ankle strap? Stacked heel? All three?! Just too much. And I’m not even sure I “get” them. If worn with pants, whatever visual interest/impact they have is lost (not to mention, slingbacks with pants are hard to pull off without stepping on your pants). I just can’t see them being worn by a lawyer with a skirt. But then, even at court I see women wearing inappropriately sexy and/or casual shoes. The $200-plus price tag seals the deal. I’ve never spent that on a pair of shoes. My $.02.
housecounsel
Not at all inappropriate, but not particularly cute, either (GC at Chicago-area health care company).
housecounsel
I take that back – I didn’t mean to denigrate D’s style. I do think they’re interesting, but I don’t love the round toe and thicker heel.
Nicki
IMO, good for a normal workday when you’re not in court or important meetings, etc. I am in Florida and we wear a lot of open toe and sandals here.
J
During my several months of reading this blog, I have never before commented … but this is just too awful to skip. This is by far the ugliest item I have ever seen on Corporette. The pink stripe across the toe is unnecessary and the gold strap is awful icing on the tasteless cake. Isn’t the point of this blog to blend current fashion with corporate wearability in order to give women direction with their personal style? This item looks like the unfortunate pair of shoes a woman would wear (to the office or elsewhere) when she *thinks* she’s being chic … but really, just has no sense of fashion or style.
SP
I don’t think they’re that bad, though I wouldn’t buy them or wear them myself. But I think people are being too hard on C. These aren’t that bad, and it wouldn’t be a very interesting blog if she just highlighted the same old boring black or muted shoes and clothes every day — I can see wanting to add something interesting or different to your wardrobe. On the right person, these shoes could be pulled off.
jcb
I like Chie Mihara shoes. They always have this aesthetic – a little funky, a little retro. I’m at a Chicago big law firm, and I think these would go over fine with a neutral dress.
Delta Sierra
I like them, even the pink, but I’ve always had a thing for retro. Also, working in an arty field, I have more freedom of choice. This is one reason I read Corporette, to develop a sort of mental watershed about what’s too much for more conservative offices, I can’t always see the dividing line myself.
JaneF
What I like about Chie Mihara shoes is they are heels you can stand in all day. No aching, hammerhead toes. No sore heels. Plus, although I agree the above are not the best, I’ve seen many others that add just that little bit of flair to keep you from looking too cookie-cutter in a corporate suit. For instance, I LOVE these Chie’s, which I found at Ped Shoes. But for me, again, the best thing about Chie Mihara is the comfort factor.
