What nail polish colors are your favorite for the holidays? Are you the once-in-a-blue-moon manicure person, a regular at the salon, or a DIY expert? (Or are you a fan of fakes, whether stickers or stick-on nails? There are surprisingly good ones out right now…)
(If you have career-related holiday parties — do you feel constrained at all in your nail polish choices?)
We've talked a lot about nails over the years, including the best nail polish colors for interviews, how to look polished with naked nails, the best treatments for healthy nails, the most generally acceptable nail length and shape for conservative offices, and what colors are appropriate for conservative offices. Inspired by a conversation with a partner at her firm, Kat's also rounded up what to look for in a nail salon near your office.
Our Latest Favorite Sedate Nail Polish Colors
These are some of our favorite nail colors for interviews: Essie's Ballet Slippers, Mademoiselle, Sugar Daddy, and the more purpley Lady Like; Essie's gel Fairy Tailor, and OPI's Bubble Bath. CLASSIC! Two slightly fancier options readers love: Dior Nail Glow and kur's Londontown Illuminating Nail Concealer.
Our Latest Favorite Healthy Nail Treatments
Looking for healthy nail treatments? Readers love Burt's Bees lemon butter cuticle cream, CND Solar Nail & Cuticle Cream, OPI Nail Envy, Deborah Lippmann's The Cure Ultra Nourishing Cuticle Repair Cream, Lush Lemony Flutter, Dior Creme Abricot, and Sally Hansen's cuticle massage creme.
Fun Holiday Nail Ideas For Your Office Holiday Parties
Here are some of the ones I'm considering as we head into the season…
A Great Red Nail Polish (Not Gel)
I've heard great things about three options, two of them really affordable: OPI's Not Really a Waitress, OPI's Big Apple Red, and Loubutin's polish that is supposedly the same red as their shoes. (It's $50, though!)
(Oooh: Big Apple Red also comes in a press-on nails set.)
Sparkly, Festive Polish
Readers turned me on to Mooncat, and they all look absolutely gorgeous. (Know your office before wearing these to work!)
The pictured one, Millenia, isn't particularly holidayish, but I think it's gorgeous. (Forbidden Cove would perhaps be great if you want to stay in the red family, and Drown my Demons looks fun if you'd prefer to go green. I am also drooling over Freshly Bitten.)
If you want a really reflective sparkle, I've heard great things about KB Shimmer.
Perfect Press-On Nails
I knew these existed, obviously, but I didn't realize that they were good until I saw an Instagram with AOC, I believe, talking about how she liked using press-on nails because they were quick and easy, and you could file them to the size and shape you wanted. As someone who vastly prefers short nails, that sounded perfect — and yet the sets I've bought have stayed in my linen closet for every holiday because I just never seem to have the time.
I've heard great things about OPI's press-on nails, but I understand Olive & June's is the easiest to remove — and they have this really pretty sparkly, ombre set (pictured) that looks gorgeous. I am sorely tempted, especially for $10. Another fun option: this reverse French manicure, with red sparkles on the tips, from Glamnetic.
Nail Stickers for the Holidays

There are so many fun ones here! I think my ultimate favorites are the pictured ones from Dashing Diva (available at Target), which are a bit on the subdued side of cutesy — but if you want to go all in, check out this red and green set, Santa's Helper, Ho Honey (lol), or this white and pink set.
(Man, there's even more at Ulta – this plaid one is gorgeous, and this pale pink one is very subtle until you get up close.)
A Darker, Moodier Red
Feeling like a moody teenager as you think about facing your “weird uncles” over the holiday season? Chanel's Vamp has always been a favorite of mine, and I think the trend is coming back — but it's now called Rouge Noir.
(I'm told Essie's Wicked is a good dupe… and do check out Mooncat's “Bottled Rage.”)
Which are your favorites for the holiday season, readers? Would any of these options be inappropriate at your office?
