Suit of the Week: Rabanne

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Also: we just updated our big roundup for the best women's suits of 2026!
I'm not sure we've ever featured a zebra print suit like this one from Rabanne here before! (I just checked: we have not! But we did feature these zebra print heels recently (still available and still fabulous!) and I think I noticed this suit back then.
Now: will most working women have cause to wear a velvet zebra print suit on a regular basis? No, you probably will not unless you're starring in Bravo reunion episode (#goals). But I can see this working surprisingly well for presentations, creative industries, fashion-adjacent offices, or anyone whose work benefits from a bit of memorable flair. And honestly, I suspect the separates would have a lot of longevity styled on their own.
The blazer is $2190, and the pants are $1490, both exclusive to NET-A-PORTER.

I need to assemble some outfits for a 3-day trip that is happening pretty last minute and which is not really my usual “scene.” Please give me all your ideas for daytime and evening outfits for the F1 race weekend in Monaco next month. We will have mornings free to wander around Monaco, then will be on a yacht for the actual races in the afternoon (I believe you can watch from the boat… not sure of the specifics but I personally will not be in the actual race corral or whatever that is called), then dinners are either on the boat or in town at a restaurant. And I think there will be some time at the casino in the evenings. What would you wear? Assume a hefty budget but no more than $1k per item. TIA!
No advice but wow, are you living in a James Bond movie or something?
Hah, no, but got invited through spouse’s work.
I’m imagining you flying on a private jet, and I am hoping you have a fabulous outfit for the jet as well. Have a great time!
+1! This sounds amazing.
+3. Sounds amazing! Have a wonderful trip!
OMG, what a dream. I think this is where expensive ‘Resort Wear’ comes in… I would just copy The White Lotus, tbh.
I feel like you need this caftan though – https://www.saksfifthavenue.com/product/camilla-plunging-v-neck-printed-linen-caftan-0400026470872.html?dwvar_0400026470872_size=Medium%2FLarge&dwvar_0400026470872_color=THE+CALL+OF+CATALONIA&site_refer=CSE_GGLPLA%3AWomens_Dresses%3ACamilla&country=US¤cy=USD&CSE_CID=SAKS_G_PLA_Women%27s+Dresses_Baseline%3ASAKS_G_PLA_Women%27s+Dresses_Baseline_Women%27s+Dresses&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23019486849&gbraid=0AAAAADO6JtSRD7ektvdUeG1B7SwyK46Ga&gclid=CjwKCAjwt7XQBhBkEiwAtStpp7nDG7FojuvJjx3GRJkYe7vys3WCGTmO8nMLjNj8rurMET1X83B_0hoCbu8QAvD_BwE
Is this just like Farm Rio but more $$$?
Link in mod, but I feel like you need gorgeous, flowy caftans. If you go to Saks, the brand ‘Camilla’ is what I’m thinking.
I would also channel The White Lotus fashion vibes… lots of flowy fabulous clothes.
+1 I immediately go to gorgeous flowing caftans or maxi dresses. Or linen pants with embellished tops.
OP here -thanks, this brand looks like it’s perfect for the occasion.
I feel like this suit wouldn’t be the worst choice.
Agree. If not now, when?
It’s perfect for the private plane ride.
tbh I would go early and shop there, unless you are a hard-to-fit size. Resortwear abounds and with your price point you could easily shop for what the locals are wearing.
-As far as exploring around Monaco by day on your own, we found it to be a total tourist trap; people were wearing everything from shorts and tees, to linen dresses, to complete influencer-photoshoot-drama. Linen dress and flat sandals would be my pick. Monaco is super hilly.
-Casino, we did not go in, but stopped by to watch — many of the women were wearing slinky evening wear, think How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days yellow dress slinky.
Ah, wish I could get there early but we’re tight on time.
Re: exploring Monaco – it has never been on my list of dream destinations and honestly have very little idea what to expect… wondering if it’d be worth it to rent a car and explore a little more afield.
Yes, I would definitely recommend renting a car. Menton, Eze, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, and Villefranche-sur-Mer are all worth visiting and are relatively close to Monaco (20-30 min). Lots of other nice Riviera towns are a bit further away.
super late but do Not miss Eze (do the hilltop gardens and cafe!)or Villefranche! If you like art check out the tiny chapel in the waterfront in Villefranche-sur-mer!
oh def do NOT rent a car. The nearby towns are SO easy to reach by train (they run constantly, like every half hour), well other than Eze but just do a 25E Uber and spare yourself parking.
We always rent a car and it is fine FWIW. My husband is from the area, so I have been more times than I can count.
Honestly, if you’re going to spend this much money on luxury-event clothes, I’d go to a stylist or personal shopper rather than lean on us (perhaps fashion-challenged) strangers here in a heavily “I need a suit for an interview or court” corner of the internet!
This!!
I feel like this would be the occasion for searching through Julia Berolzheimer’s IG links for inspiration. If it were me, I’d probably get one epic caftan (saw some great ones by Pucci) and swap out the of a day look for more affordable black linen.
oh good call – I love her style but always think I never have anywhere to wear her picks..
Yup
She looks like great style inspo for Monaco.
I think linen always looks appropriate in southern Europe on a summer day…I’d be getting a maxi/midi shirt dress and a set. Probably one in white and one in black, but I tend to prefer neutrals. Wear with a flat sandal or fashion sneaker, perhaps with a statement straw hat if that’s something you’d be into (I looked at Bergdorf Goodman and there’s a Loro Piana cloche hat that has me gagged…), and impeccable jewelry. I hope you have a good bag already?
But yes, if this were me, I’d come with an outfit or two and then shop for the rest in Monaco, because why not.
This sounds like such a fun experience, I hope you have a blast!
Monaco inspired Porto Corsa in the Pixar movie “Cars 2.” The yachts are quite an important feature of this race.
Check out Nicole Cassidy Styling on instagram
thanks!
Ahh this is fun to think about. I think I’d go all Ulla Johnson.
Wow what an incredible experience! We were there one year just after the race and just seeing the infrastructure was neat, can’t imagine the real thing.
I’d buy all G-label by Gwyneth Paltrow
La Double J has some great resort pieces that read European coast rather than tropical.
I love this suit! Sadly, there is neither a place for it in my life nor money for it in my budget.
Gulp.
Some people really need excess attention 😂
What would you pick as your everyday purse if money were no object? (and, what color?!)
Large/tote bag:
Botegga hop in brown suede (for fall/winter)
Khaite medium lotus tote in straw (for spring/summer)
Smaller/crossbody option:
Botegga knot lock in black (fall/winter)
Celine medium louise bucket in rafia and calfskin (spring/summer) OR
Totem t-lock clutch in milk grain (spring/summer)
Bottega
In my dreams I carry a Bottega Veneta small Veneta in black or ecru.
Color is easy. I have a Gucci crossbody that is a tannish pink and it literally goes with everything. Been through a gazillion trips, all seasons, works well with pink or tan shoes, and never looks out of place with black or navy suiting or pastel casual. For every day, it’s a perfect color.
The fun part? I’d go with something not overly branded. My Gucci now seems like everybody and their brother has and will look dated if it isn’t already. You want something that will work over time and trends. I’m thinking something with really nice leather and in a simple shape. Maybe something like a Terresse bag from The Row or something without the weaving from Bottega like the Liberta or something from Saint Laurent withot the big YSL?
I know they’re tacky but honestly I really like the look of the LV Neverfull
Me too. But I’d get a Birkin and toss it around casually every day if money were no object.
Just having one of those days where the thing I warned everyone would happen and they didn’t want to listen to me . . . happened. And now they want me to fix it.
“Yeah, that’s what I was hoping we could avoid! I don’t have any time this week but I’ll turn to it next week if I can.” That’s my nice version.
best tips for helping canker sore pain?
i used to get them all the time in my 20s and 30s and remember almost every treatment I tried hurting worse than the dumb canker sore. for some reason (thankfully!) i stopped getting them. but: now my ND son is getting them. so… anything new to try?
Put baking soda on it
From personal experience: ice cubes. The sores are caused by a virus that is temperature sensitive. Hold an ice cube on it until the ice cube is melted, and it stops the progression and shorten the time. Repeat as you can.
I don’t know what actually helps to improve the pain. There are a lot of factors that contribute to getting them in the first place that are probably worth looking into.
Including sodium laurel sulfate in toothpaste! I went from so many canker sores to almost never getting them when I learned that.
Yes, this was priceless advice from my hygienist. I looked it up, and some study found nearly 30% of people can’t really handle that ingredient. I wish 30% of fluoride toothpaste were SLS-free!
The oral b mouth sore mouthwash has been making a big difference for me.
Also, just anbesol to numb it.
Used tea bags! Seriously.
Steep a tea bag, let it cool, put it over the sore.
Isn’t a canker sore a herpes breakout? If so, I think there is an oral Rx that greatly reduces severity and length of outbreak.
No, you’re thinking of cold sores. Canker sores are those little tiny sores you get on the inside of your lip, on your gum, or on your tongue.
Cankaid
Any suggestions on what to wear? I’ve been asked to visit an office in downtown Chicago to meet a team I’ll be working with if I take a job in trade media. Do I wear a formal suit? Suiting dress? Dress with a blazer? I haven’t been offered the position formally (doing reference checks). So I’m still treating it very much like interviewing. I’m 52, and I don’t want to seem like a dinosaur by going too formal. My boss is on a different coast and most of the team I’m directly working with are as well if that makes any difference. I plan to wear flats no matter what. I have a ton of options but just stuck on what seems right for the situation.
I think this is a job for suit separates. Can you do a skirt and blazer combo? Wide-leg pants with a blazer? I don’t think you have to be match-matchy in the separates. Just professional and polished, and in a demure color palate of neturals.
[this answer is assuming it’s not a business formal environment because I find that if you’re not business formal, separates almost certainly apply]
I’m in downtown Chicago, and lots of women in law and local government wear suits, but most women are wearing wide leg pants and an interesting blazer. If you’re senior and in media, I’d go for a colored blazer. If you’re a dress/skirt person, I’d do a midi dress or midi skirt and blazer. I rarely see heels, except in the most formal business settings or on people who are obviously shoe people. Flats will be totally fine.
I’m still a suit fan but styled not stuffy, I’d do a black suit with flats and a printed blouse all the time. Csuite, early 50s.
Man, I envy menswear for conferences, if only to be able to wear normal socks with normal shoes. My professional shoes aren’t comfortable enough for even a short walk outside during this beautiful weather conference!
This was a choice, though.
Was it? I made multiple shopping trips attempting to find a single pair of comfortable, professional shoes that come in wide. I didn’t even factor in style. What I found was the least bad option that I could afford. And it was shocking what they cost.
You might try Shapen… they are barefoot shoes, super pretty though and very comfy! And wide!
Try Trotters in wide.
I need help adopting more of a poker face when I’m in meetings surrounded by Tradwicks who do not know how to get to the point or are grandstanding. I don’t think I’m doing anything really blatant like rolling eyes, but I also know from friends that I’m not hiding my irritation well.
What is tradwick? Not trolling, just not in the US
A “Dr. The Original…” neologism combining “Chadwick” and “Trad.”

Two angles to work on:
1. Work on not getting as worked up internally about these people. Whether you do that through resignation, detachment, acceptance, compassion, differentiation, humor, reframing, humility, or some other avenue, is up to you.
2. Practice relaxing your face. I have to deliberately tell myself to relax my eyes, my forehead, eyebrows, cheeks, mouth, etc.
+1 Both points are excellent pieces of advice.
What is a “tradwick”? I don’t know this slang.
My friend’s solution was Botox (not expressly for this reason but clearly helped!), in case you were considering it and needed a reason to get it ha!
Agree, especially with the forehead
A Tradwick is a mediocre white male who is oblivious to his mediocrity because of white male privilege
I mean, do you? Sounds like you have an appropriate response.
Any time you give into thinking this way you’re only limiting yourself. Those guys are going to exist and they’re probably also going to do well. Instead of sneering at them, befriend a few and network. You might even discover they’re people too.
Thank goodness someone is here to stick up for the marginalized white men of the world, under the guise of concern trolling.
