Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. 1Wow. I'm sure we'll all be on the same page about this one: isn't it AMAZING for the office? What a great way to express your personality! I particularly think it would be a fabulous way to incorporate your favorite bikini into your office wardrobe, which, let's face it, can be difficult otherwise. Obviously, I'd add a blazer over it, and perhaps a set of pearls — you know, to stodge it up a bit. And ladies, it's your lucky day: it's on sale! Was $60, now marked to $36 at American Apparel. 1. Oh man, I can’t even play along with this one. Looks like what Gaga would wear as a hospital gown. Good find, Kat!

  2. Just remembered it’s April Fool’s Day. My jaw dropped when I first saw this post though.

  3. For a moment I thought, “What?! When you tweeted this a few weeks ago I thought you were joking.” Aah. Very nice! Way to get me.

  4. Well, in my office, those open-toed shoes wouldn’t be appropriate, so I’d probably wear this with some closed toe pumps. A yellow cardigan would say “Caution! Awesome attorney coming through!”

    1. The shoes are the best part of the outfit. Really brings the whole ensemble together!

  5. I was looking forward to what awful outfit you’d post today! Thanks for surpassing my high expectations.

  6. At first I though this was going to be a suggestion but what to wear under unlined pants for those whole don’t like them! Very funny Kat.

  7. My favorite part are the granny panties attached to it. I mean, if you’re going to wear a see-through jumpsuit, might as well just make it a thong jumpsuit.

  8. Personally, I buy almost all my work clothes at American Apparel. My view is that if you can’t see every lump, roll and cellulite dimple, its not tight enough! :)

    1. “Troubled producer and retailer American Apparel said Thursday sales declined and it made a fiscal 2010 loss. But while observers expect the company to head into bankruptcy protection if business doesn’t improve, CEO and founder Dov Charney said things weren’t as bad as they appeared.

An upbeat Charney said that he was confident the company would get back on track this year and that it was developing initiatives to boost sales, reduce costs and improve liquidity. He said there was “not even a 1-in-1,000 chance” of a bankruptcy filing, he told the Losd Angeles Times.

“While [bankruptcy is] a remote possibility, we think we’re going to have a decent year,” Charney said. “We’re in here fighting hard…. We’re seeing recovery in worker efficiency and we’re seeing a recovery in sales momentum.”

      1. Dov Charney is a total pig and I’d never support his company by buying any American Apparel, ever. (I realize Kat’s post was an April Fool’s, of course — just sayin’).

        1. ITA. This man and by way of extension, his company have no redeeming qualities what-so-ever. Any woman who purchases from AA support this man’s very demeaning and disgusting philosophy about all women.

          1. I’m not a huge AA fan and certainly not its CEO, but this is a huge overstatement (not to mention incredibly judgmental).

          2. ?? I don’t follow. A compay is always more than one man, regardless of what position of authority he is in.

          3. The top of the company doesn’t set the corporate standards?

Wow, the missed this in business school didn’t the?

And I guess the interviews he conducted in his underwear while masturbating, his public statements about how “all women are sluts” and the continual soft porn AA ads don’t say a thing about the company at all?

            Well color me educated.

            Carry on.

          4. Eh. Yeah, doesn’t say a thing about the company. What do I know though, just a current MBA student who worked at American Apparel for many years as a high school and undergrad student.

At AA I met a lot of great people. I worked at multiple stores in a large city and had no problems. I understand that my experiences are not representative of those of everyone who has worked there but personally, I had no complaints.

When I buy from AA I think of working at a company that was cool with hiring an openly gay 15 year old with a shaved head, gave me work schedules that fit my exam periods, did not require me to sell vast amounts of stuff, moved me from one location to another closer to where I lived to save me commute time and had a manager wait with me for bus at night (they asked me if I wanted someone to wait with me after their hired me).

I have never heard anything bad about working at AA from anyone who worked at AA other than the things I have read online.

To be honest I find their products too expensive for what they are and only buy their tights (which I justify on the basis that they last forever).

  9. Hey, if a see through dress was good enough to catch the eye of a future King of England, surely such a jumpsuit should be good enough to help you make partner.

But, I still won’t buy it. Not natural fibers. Honestly, you would think they could at least make this out of silk.

    1. This.

ps- as a friend said, “who needs a job when you can jump from party planning heiress to princess?”

  10. Ha! A great way to start an April Fools’ day that includes 1) our entire office moving to another building: followed by 2) regulatory compliance exam by the Feds on Monday. Got to laugh or cry, one or the other.

    1. and where to they wear it once they’ve bought it? I mean, you can only make so much money on people buying this for Lady Gaga Halloween costumes.

      1. I love the reviews. For those who don’t want to go to the site at work:

This is the best! It is so comfortable and looks so good on any body type. If you’re thinking about it, it’s on sale and it’s AMAZING.

This is amazing! It’s really comfortable, slimming and super sexy without being over the top. Love this!

i got this for my 21st birthday. im wearing the black american apparel latex shorts and latex strapless bra underneath. its very lady gaga (whom im going to my party as) i love it. its gorges on and i know i will wear it again

I love this, I’m going to buy it today! and to answer the ? to the other reviewer whom answered her own question. it is to be worn over a unitard, or a short body suit. or a bathing suit or as “intimate” apparel.. so yeah it’s hot either way!

Why? thats all i have to say… If someone can tell me the purpose of this I’d appreciate it. but seriously. maybe it could be worn over the cotton-spandex unitard?? that would be cute…over the raspberry one… yea! thats it. that’d be hott.

this is really cool. and your model is gorgeous

        1. oh, this just answered my question. . . those reviews read exactly like my 19-year old cousin’s horrifying facebook updates . . .

    2. I bought the pair of booty running shorts years ago, my first and only purchase from American Apparel. *Hangs head in shame* I think they’re still selling it.

      1. I have some nice very casual summery dresses from AA, nothing wrong with them, I think.

        1. I know some people have very strong feelings about Dov Schwartz, but I am not one of them. I have been buying their basics for years. I like the quality and simplicity of the tees, etc. (obviously not applicable to the TPS item!) and I like that it is all made in the US.

The nameless manufacturers employed to make clothes for Gap, Target, you name it, do not have better working conditions for their employees. Sexual harrassment is not even considered harassment in most of the factories producing our clothes, and let’s not kid ourselves by pretending otherwise. I completely understand why someone would not wish to support AA by purchasing their clothes, but as a whole I, personally, find the corporate values of AA much less troubling that the corporate values of many, many other companies.

          1. That’s right AIMS, close your eyes and nothing bad is happening. Ignorance is bliss, correct?
Ugh, that attitude is soooo depressing.

          2. Actually, Mouse, she’s doing the exact opposite of pretending nothing is happening; she’s saying that she believes it happens everywhere. Schwartz’s behavior (if true) is heinous, but peoples’ judgy attitude about whether others purchase items from AA is hardly commendable.

  11. Perfect for casual Fridays. As long as the flip-flops had a suitable wedge, I think you’d be good to go. I’d be sure to bring a poncho in case it was chilly in the office that day, however…

  12. Hilarious!!

Non-jokingly, their Disco Pants are super-awesome for going-out-dancing pants. They are like the pants Sandy wore in the last musical scene in “Grease” and are heavy enough that they smooth everything out. They don’t even show a VPL. However, they do require an extra 10 mins of get-ready time, since it’s like zipping up the jaws of death (I usually have to use a pair of pliers). That said, once they are on, they’re also really comfortable.

And that is the only advertisement for AA that you will ever see me make. :-D

    1. Sadly, I think that this is only available in Canada. I can’t get this to work on the US site. Boo!

    2. THANK you for telling me about this! I prefer Alternative Apparel, but I love the Am App pencil skirt and 6 for $15 is too sweet of a deal to pass up.

    3. According to the site, the pencil skirt “can also double as a tube top.” BONUS!

      1. You probably have to be an A cup for it to work haha.

Seriously, the skirt is a great basic, lasts forever if you wash it on delicate. Buy one size down though, it will stretch after 5 or 6 times.

        1. A cup not a problem. I know it’s April Fools Day and all, but don’t tease me. These skirts are actually worth buying? The model looks lumpy/bumpy/frumpy in it. And it is too short on her. But maybe she’s wearing the wrong size? I’m all for a great deal though. Can anyone else vouch for this skirt?

          1. I don’t have one, but a friend of mine has two. I don’t think they’re office appropriate (too tight and short) but they look pretty good on her for a casual skirt (she’s about a size 8 if it matters).

          2. i think that the length and tightness probably depends on your build – in this shot the skirt doesn’t look too tight and reaches the knee: http://lookbook.nu/look/349729-Hers

it looks casual with a t-shirt but i think could be made casual friday appropriate with a dressier blouse & a cardigan or blazer.

          3. This is usually a 40 dollar skirt, it has some of the highest reviews on the AA site and has been around a few years so it’s one of the more popular items.

I would wear it as a skirt (never a tank top), it requires a thong or thin underwear in my opinion ifyou are going to wear it with tights simply because the skirt material is thicker than you’d expect and you will look bloated otherwise. Do not worry about underwear lines showing through the skirt.

I find it works for work because I am 5’1 and not curvey. It hits my knees. I wear it with a tuck in blouse and either a cardigan or a sweater vest.

Like all AA items it will fade if treated badly, wash on delicate or just buy a lighter colour instead of black or dark navy. It also will stretch after 5 or 6 wears so buy a size down.

You know, if nothing else, at this price the skirts are worth buying simply to bring into a consignment store to trade for credit. Depending on where you live, all you’re paying is shipping.

    4. Did anyone actually try to use this code? It told me the code requires a $60 minimum purchase.

        1. I tried it and it said the code is not valid for the pencil skirts mentioned above. What items did you buy to make it work?

      1. WHY would you wear that?

Really, the photos suggest that it for the bedroom, but, umm, it’s really not really all that sexy. If you want bedroom wear, you can do better!

        1. Um, don’t AA photos suggest that pretty much ALL their attire is for the bedroom? :-) (Though I’m with Lyssa on that topic…)

  13. Just had to share my excitement that my firm is sending me solo to visit a client for the first time today! Yes, it’s still work, but it’s a fun way to break up a hectic week.

  14. Oh my is all I can say:)

Fellow Corporettes, I am travelling to NYC next week are there any sample sales, must have stores for me to visit? Thanks!

  15. Thread Jack – Re post

Fellow Corporettes, I am travelling to NYC next week are there any sample sales, must have stores for me to visit?

    Thanks!

  16. Anxiously awaiting to hear if I get what could very well be my dream job today…had the final interview yesterday and I feel it went fantastically, so now the nailbiting/anxiety begins!

Trying to focus on the work I have to do today but it’s hard, as I jump every single time the phone rings.

Keep your fingers crossed for me please, Corporettes!

  17. This is a good follow up to our discussion on lace yesterday. This is not lace, even though it walks the line, so this would be appropriate for every office, where as if it was made of lace, it would raise a few eyebrows

  18. What bra do you ladies think I should wear under this? I was going to play it safe and wear zebra print, but I’m thinking some pasties with tassels may take it to a whole new level? Or should I just stick with the pasties with the pearls on them….to keep it professional?

    1. I think tasteful pasties would be good – think Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction” oh-so-long-ago.

    2. How about the Janet Jackson nipple piercings? I mean if you are going there, go fierce.

  19. Threadjack time: any tips for working for someone who doesn’t want to be working with you? I’ve just been assigned to a project and the project manager doesn’t want me working on it. As far as I have been told, her objections are that she’s never worked with me before and that we’re in geographically separate offices, so we’ll have to communicate by phone and email. I suspect she’s also worried because I’m a junior level, and she usually “wants the best” on her projects. Both my supervisor and the intermediate level person she’d prefer for the project have told her that I’m perfectly capable of handling it, but it doesn’t seem to be helping.

Any advice on how to handle this? There’s no one else to do the work, so she’s stuck with me, but I’d like to convince her that I’m competent. Is this something that I should call her to address (she’s never brought these concerns up with me, I’ve just heard about them from my supervisor), or should I just leave it alone? And any tips on not letting it get to me mentally? I’ve had nothing but positive feedback from supervisors and previous project managers, and most of them have sent more work my way afterwards, but now I’m starting to worry that maybe I have a bad reputation I don’t know about. Although this work isn’t something I’ve done exactly before, I was confident I wasn’t going to have any trouble with it, but I’m starting to feel less confident.

    1. Agreed, I dont think it’s worth bringing up, just try to do an even better job than usual so that you get on her favorites list!

    2. As much as you can, stay out of your head. Don’t do something because you think you need to impress her, prove something, etc. Do it because you know it’s the right thing to do. Likewise, don’t be afraid to ask questions, clairifications, etc, because you are worried she’ll think less of you. You will never be able to get into her head, and it will make you crazy trying to. Do your best. Work your hardest. Let the chips fall.

  20. My friends, I just stopped in at H&M during lunch, and they had something EXACTLY like this. Not even kidding.

  21. I’m SO glad this is on sale! I find if I purchase my office MESH jumpsuits at deep discount, I can SAVE more toward my Birkin bag.

My only worry is that my BALD office manager will BREATHE on me more in this if I buy the black one. Does it come in PINK?

    1. I think he’s supposed to breathe on you. Don’t you know, women are like flowers! We all know you need to breathe on and talk to plants for them to grow well. Also, think of all the career opportunities if you hook up with him! Black all the way! ;)

  22. I visited Miami recently, and saw rompers everywhere. Short shorts, long ones, you name it. They are really in for certain crowds, and actually looked cute on the younger gals putzing around South Beach. I want one but would keep it to tropical wear. Not kidding!

  23. just to clarify though… not this see-through meshy stuff! some cute print or something in cotton:)
