Today's reader mail comes from a 1L, who's just been told she needs braces... I have recently been advised by a number of orthodontists and oral surgeons that I need full braces (including rubber bands -- eek!) on both my top and bottom teeth for at least two years, followed by retainers, etc. My question is: would getting braces adversely my job prospects? I'm concerned that employers might somehow be distracted and/or put off by braces in interviews. Will they take me seriously? Have you ever ... Poll: When Do Miniskirts Become a Don’t, Even Outside the Office?
Hopefully, no one thinks that miniskirts are a DO for the office. (See our prior poll on this here and here.) But a reader posed this question in comments, and we think it's a good one: does a time come in a woman's life -- a serious, professional woman's life -- at which it is no longer acceptable to wear miniskirts at ALL? We thought we'd run a poll and see. ... Read More about Poll: When Do Miniskirts Become a Don’t, Even Outside the Office?
Reader Mail – Pearl Necklaces and Younger Women
A while ago, we got this intriguing e-mail from a reader: As a late graduation present, I was considering asking my folks for a classic strand of pearls. This turned out to be more complicated than I had thought. Is it (still) true that younger women shouldn't aspire to larger pearls? I don't want to buy a strand that will look silly when I'm in my 30s and 40s -- what's the largest I can get away with in my 20s? The article she linked to explained that larger pearls were for older women -- ... Read More about Reader Mail – Pearl Necklaces and Younger Women
Poll: Can Younger Women Wear Colorful Suits?
Can younger women wear colorful suits? A few weeks ago there was some debate about whether younger women can get away with wearing colorful suits without seeming like they're too . . . old. This was particularly interesting to me -- I'll admit I've never worn colorful suits, but it had never occurred to me that it was something exclusively for older women. {related: colorful suits and the working woman} Can Younger Women Wear Colorful Suits? The reason I didn't wear colorful suits when ... Read More about Poll: Can Younger Women Wear Colorful Suits?

For some reason we NEVER go out of the house without blush on -- so for this we're surprised. (We kinda look like the walking dead without it.) Our favorite product is Benefit's benetint blush -- we heard about it for years but for some ... Read More about Poll Results: There are some surprises in your every day makeup bag!
Generation Pantyhose
There's an interesting story in today's WSJ regarding pantyhose, and how it causes a generational divide between workers. That's definitely true! We here at Corporette think they should be worn on the most formal of occasions -- court appearance, meeting with the CEO, etc -- but for daily work they aren't necessary. We were surprised, a few weeks ago, when we ran our first poll and 50% of you said that they weren't ever necessary. At left: SPANX All The Way Up! Pantyhose Hosiery. Anyway, our ...
