Lodis Belize Lily Mirror Credit Card CaseWhile I lurve this credit card case, I must admit that I'd probably use it for business cards rather than credit cards (since I prefer that magnetized cards get their own slots, but maybe that's just me). Love the large print and the mirror inside. Unfortunately, the blue one pictured is nearly sold out at Amazon(on sale for $20.15), Endless ($27.09) and Zappos ($33.60), but Lodis has lots of similar cases available at Endless and Amazon. 1. Has anyone tried the Dermalogica adult acne product line? I have struggled with my complexion since I was a teenager ( have been on antibiotics, Accutane, Retin-A, the works) and now I am facing the prospect of having both acne and wrinkles, joy! I have had moderate success with the Acne Free line, but lately it seems to have stopped working. I should just make the time to find a new dermatologist, but I’ve had such linited succes in the past that I’m not eager to spend the time or money.
Are there any products that you swear by?

    1. Have you tried Paula’s Choice? It’s worked well for me. I still break out, but not nearly as badly as I used to, and it clears up more quickly. Only problem is that I found the extra strength benzoyl peroxide treatment really, really irritated my skin – we’re talking itching and peeling – but I started using it as a spot treatment and that works fine.

    2. The best success I’ve had is from taking zinc vitamins–seriously! It may take 2 – 3 months to work, and you may need to play around with dose to get it correct for you. My skin is drier now, so I take 50mg once per day. When my skin was oilier and I was breaking out more, I took it twice a day. If you take too much, your skin will get too dry and peel, which I learned the hard way. If I recall, someone that ran a chain of health food stores recommended this to me, and surprisingly, it has worked well.

I’ve been doing this for 15+ years, as well as making sure to avoid ingredients in cosmetics and beauty care that make me break out–I always look for non-comedogenic.

    3. I have a friend who used benzoyl peroxide and ended up stopping because it made her wrinkles look more noticeable. It’s really drying and not a good option if you want to treat/prevent wrinkles.

I use the Clarisonic and the Body Shop Tea Tree line, along with an AHA night cream that really seems to help keep the acne in line while preventing any large breakouts on my face.

My main issue is my scalp- I do not use any shampoos with sulfates and use the Aveda salicylic acid scalp treatment when I have bad breakouts (typically from stress) but I can’t figure out how to stop the breakouts. The only time I’ve noticed a big change was when I got a 30-minute exfoliating scalp massage, but that’s not something we have in my current city.

    4. One of my favorite Dermalogica products turned out to have parabens, which can clog pores something fierce. It took a course of Accutane to get my skin under control, but it has been clear going on a year now; I wish I’d done it sooner. Other than that, I love my Clarisonic brush and Arcona products.

      1. My skin always clears up if I spend a lot of time swimming. Submerging your face in chlorinated water for an hour strips away oil, dead skin cells and kills bacteria.

You’ll need a good moisturizer for after though.

        1. Haha, yes indeed. Swimmer high-five.

I had amazing skin until I was 20 because of all the chlorine immersion. I try not to think about what it did to my respiratory system, though.

    5. Try completely eliminating sugar from your diet. Seriously. I had awful, awful skin–cystic acne that required injections to prevent scarring–and my skin immediately cleared once I gave up sugar.
      Good luck!

        1. When I was 26, about a decade ago, I had an awful resurgence of acne. I had cystic acne. Made several trips to dermatologist for injections to prevent scarring. My face was a mess. It was especially awful because my skin had been clear for severl years due to three trials of accutane. Anyway, I was desperate and came accross the “no sugar” advice on an acne message board. I gave up all proceesed sugar. I ate nothing where sugar, in any form, was listed as an ingredient but did have fruit and milk. Honey was okay. Also ate foods with splenda. My skin instantly cleared. I now eat dessert occasionally and my skin is clear. I know that some–dr. perricone–recommend not ingesting any foods that cause inflammation, including sugar, but elimination of sugar was key for me. HTH.

    6. This may sound strange, but I’ve had the best luck using apple cider vinegar. I’ve had acne off and on since I was a teenager, I’m late 20s now. And about a year ago I read somewhere you can use apple cider vinegar like a toner. Now I wash my face every night and then rub a bit over my face with a cottonball on the areas where I am most prone to breakouts. It doesn’t smell pretty, but I just leave on overnight then do my normal face routine in the morning (shower, moisturizer, etc).

  2. Anyone interested in doing a Corporette cocktail/coffee meet up in Toronto this weekend for those who are going to be at the ABA meeting?

  3. I need a new navy suit! Suitable (tehe) for federal court and a good choice for a small frame (petite and slim), please….any recommendations?? I’ve been seeing all sorts of black and gray, but I really want a nice, rich, classic navy.

      1. Mine is a J Crew suit as well! It isn’t pinstripe, though. I think you might have to have the length hemmed if you are petite, but I am slim and love the way that J Crew pants fit my frame.

        1. As soon as there’s a 20% off full-priced items promo, I’m going to get that dress.

          1. Did you get a fall rewards card yet? I just got mine yesterday and might have to take the plunge on the pinstripe suit. I love it!

      2. I have that same suit, but with the Nouvelle jacket, and I get tons and tons of compliments on it. It’s my favorite suit.

    1. I was at the Brooks Brothers Factory Store near me yesterday and they had some navy suits. I didn’t have time to check them out in much detail, but I have a few suits from there and the quality is great and the fit is good for a slender build. Don’t know about petite.

      1. Cordovan, certain shades of brown, aubergine/purple, gray, even black or red can all work. I don’t like most navy heels I have encountered, but that’s another possibility.

        1. Do you have Premium Outlets near you? The Elie Tahiri outlets often have really great deals…I bought a navy pinstripe skirt suit about a year ago (unfortunately can’t find a pic to show you) for just a little bit more than the price point of J Crew suiting. It was about half off the regular price during their end of summer sale. I’m not petite, but they seem to have a good petites selection. The material (just a little bit of stretch in the skirt) and the lining feel divine, and the material doesn’t really show wrinkles. I’m boring, so I usually wear nude for me heels w/ it (to answer another poster’s question.)

        2. Brown (a “bright” brown, not a dull brown) and nude is what I wear with mine.

      2. I wear (wore, actually) medium gray pumps. The heel broke off yesterday. They were my favorite and I hope they can be repaired. I wore them with *everything*.

  4. This is perfect for me! I just got promoted and just got my new business cards last week. I did not like the cheap black plastic case they gave me, which only holds about 10-15 cards comfortably. This is so much nicer, and for $30, it is worth it.

  5. Thanks to all the commenters who have recommended The Hunger Games- I finally took the plunge today at lunch, managed to bill one hour after that, and have finished the first book.

  6. I’m a longtime reader, though have rarely commented, with a question for the hive mind! I will be meeting with a client in Jackson Hole, WY, to be followed by dinner and a concert. I’m a banker in NYC and would normally wear a suit to both, but received a note that the dress code for the dinner will be “western casual (jeans allowed).” Any thoughts from you ladies west of the Mississippi on what I should wear?

    1. I’m an attorney in Texas and here is what I would wear: (1) dark wash jeans; (2) cowboy boots if you have them, if not kitten heels or dressy flats; (3) knit top or a blouse. Wear what you would if you had to wear jeans to church. Seems silly, but that way you won’t strike a “going out” vibe and you won’t be too casual either.

    2. I’m in Calgary and we just had the Stampede, which entails wearing Western outfits to work for the week (some bold folks wear their western stuff to court even!).

I’d say go with trouser dark wash jeans, a tucked button-down, a belt with a bigger buckle and definitely boots. Bring a blazer if you want to feel more comfortable (given your usual go-to of a suit) or are afraid of being too dressed down. The boots really are key. A word of warning: good luck getting out of the boots if they’re not worn-in yet and you’ve been in them all day.

  7. Hey corporettes – fashion advice needed: I have an informational meeting (they’re not hiring now, but may be in the next few months) with someone big deal in my industry later this week. I’d usually wear a suit, but the place is pretty casual – think khakis, dress shirt, no tie for men. And I’m told he’s not big on formality in general – a very low-key person that doesn’t like “trying too hard.” At the same time, I want to look professional enough to be taken seriously.
    What to wear?

    1. Some along the lines of a nice pants and a silk blouse, low heels? Not a suit, but put together enough to look like you care and are showing respect.

More important to make the low-key point through in your demeanor, I would think. Good luck!

  8. Thanks ladies! I have a pair of Frye boots in my closet that will be perfect, if not authentic!

  9. I’ve been exploring for a little bit for any high-quality articles or blog posts on this sort of space . Exploring in Yahoo I finally stumbled upon this website. Reading this info So i’m
