Co-Lab by Christopher Kon Safia HoboI like the look of this simple canvas hobo. It has a metallic wash, so it looks slightly leathery, but isn't — my guess is that it is both lighter than leather and sturdier than plastic. At 11.5″ high, 19″ wide, and 6″ deep, it's a big hobo, but I tend to prefer big hobos — more room for my things! It's available in brown (pictured), coral, and purple at Endless.com for $108 (free two-day shipping). Co-Lab by Christopher Kon Safia Hobo (L-2)

  1. I usually like your bags, but I think this kind of looks like a burlap sack. I like the coral, though.

    1. Well, good for them. I hope someday I’ll be able to work hard enough and hone my skills enough to become a “star” as well.

  2. Hi ladies. I’ve seen some great advice in the comments before, so I thought I’d try my luck. My husband and I are just starting out – family-wise, career-wise – and are thinking about working with a financial planner to help us efficiently save for a home, college tuition, and retirement. Does anyone have specific recommendations for financial planners in the DC area who would be willing to work with complete financial neophytes? For those of you who do not have a financial planner but rely on other resources to plan savings, etc. – can you recommend your resources?

      1. I really love my Edward Jones person. My family had been with them for years, so I just found a woman in my area and walked in an had a consultation.

  3. This might be a good time for me to recommend a recent purchase of mine: a non-leather wristlet from Matt & Nat. I was tired of carrying both a purse and “briefcase” (leather tote for work), so I wanted a professional-looking wristlet that is small enough to stash in my briefcase when commuting or traveling, but that big enough to take out for lunch or errands during the day (holding my cell phone, cards, cash, and keys). I purchased the Maia wristlet from Matt & Nat:

I usually buy leather products, so this material and brand are new to me. I am very pleased with the quality of the material and construction, and it is exactly the size I was looking for. Great buy! (I bought it in an olive green — there are more color options available than just the white if people are interested).

  4. Very casual. Not going to make people sit up and notice that you are an up and comer.

    1. I just want to say I really appreciate comments like this on this blog. This doesn’t look that casual to me, but now I know.

  5. While I am not crazy about this particular bag style, the brand, itself, has impressed me. I am in love with leather, but somehow ended up with one of their leather-look bags and ended up keeping it, despite. The material it is so convincing in appearance and super sturdy. It’s held up beautifully, despite being worn daily for six months now.

  6. Beyond thrilled about an upcoming biglaw interview in the northeast. I’m leaning toward a pant suit b/c I like them better and to avoid dealing with the what type of tights b/c its freezing situation. Does this seem right? Any tips for interviewing in a skirt suit in winter and dealing with the cold and possible snow? Thanks for any thoughts.

    1. I interviewed recently in a skirt suit, but for a much more casual environment. I went with the skirt and fleece-lined tights, which I actually find warmer than some pants. However, because the fleece-lined tights are so opaque, I think they can look more casual or legging-like. I also knew that trying to fit my pant legs into my winter boots would result in a total wrinkled mess.

I came up with another idea recently. I changed my shoes at a cafe about a block away, why not change into my pants there as well (or skirt)? As long as you can get the item there without wrinkling, it would be easy enough to have on a pair of tights or hose under yoga pants, slip on the suit skirt and just tuck the yoga pants into the same bag as boots (which you could check with your coat at the office).

    2. Go for the pants!

Is it in NY or somewhere else in the NE? Depending on where it is and where you are coming from, people may be able to give you better advice on how you should get there, etc.
