I'm overdue to update our post on where to find stylish plus-size suits (which may not seem particularly relevant at the moment, but I don't like it when our resources get out of date), but in the meantime I thought I'd ask a fun question for an open thread: What new-to-you online stores are you checking out these days?
Have you checked out certain sites because you're shopping for supplies for a new hobby (say, KingArthurBaking), or because you're seeking Black-owned businesses to support (like, say, WH Shop)? Are you spending more time on social media and discovering smaller stores such as like Lisa Says Gah? Or even as far as big stores go — are you checking out TJMaxx.com for the first time when your regular T.J.Maxx in-store fix seems like an unnecessary outing? Do tell…
{related: what online-only beauty brands do you love?}
For my $.02, I definitely am having fun browsing new stores I hear about, more so than usual, just because in-person shopping has greatly decreased. (I've been in two stores since March!) I've made purchases at Svaha (STEM-friendly witty clothes) and Ecoslay (curly-hair goodness), and scrolled through many more. (Oh, and I think Linoto is going on my holiday list.)
How about you? I'd love to hear which are your favorite new discoveries…

I’m looking for a full-length bathrobe to wear around the house now that it’s chilly and I’m still here all the time. I’m finding few full-length options in general. The ones I do find seem to be made of cotton (not warm enough), some polyester fake plush that’s terrible for the environment, or a rare few made of flannel but in hideous patterns. LL Bean has a flannel version, but I don’t love the plaid prints. I’d prefer just a solid black or navy.
Any recommendations? Would pay up to $150 for this.

Weird, don’t know why that didn’t link (or nest) lets try again:

I really like Soma robes and I think their modal blend is quite cozy.
NYNY
Coyuchi has lovely robes, all from organic sources. The flannel is above your price point ($198), but the others meet your criteria.

I just bought my mom a navy blue full length Barefoot Dreams robe. $145 at Nordstrom.

That might be the polyester plush you want to avoid, I realized.

This. I don’t know what it is made of environmentally but if feels as if it is made of clouds. I’ve had my BD robe for 5+ years and it feels great and stands up to very frequent washing.

I know that you said that cotton is not warm enough, but have you looked at the Carole Hockman robes? I just bought this one from Amazon (about $75). I like that it’s 100% cotton (in the solid color) because I HATE static cling. And in the winter, with the heater going, you’re going to get clingy if there’s any polyester mixed into the fabric. The cotton is on the thicker side and has a quilted design.

I’m really particular about my robes, too, which is why I’ve been just wearing my summer robe year-round. I wear mine after the shower so it can’t have a collar because that gets in the way. And, I’ve never had a zippered robe, but I like how this will stay closed

I just had the most obnoxious tech interview. It was a video call, and he was looking off screen the whole time. I know it was probably just a second screen, and tbh I don’t mind it when my current colleagues do it, but it was not nice during an interview. He kept interrupting me, and asked a lot of textbook questions which you never think about outside of school, which I know is typical but still. In any case I even tried to stop the interview at one point because I didn’t think there was any point in continuing, and he didn’t let me. I know that is a bit of a bridge-burn-y thing to do, but as a response to a lot of things I was no longer interested in the job at the time. Oh well at least I got some technical interview practice out of that.

I bought this one on an end of season sale last year and love it – VERY thick and plus. I got a medium for extra roominess, and it’s definitely not ankle length (which I prefer, I find I trip on the longer ones). The men’s robes also look very thick and cozy.
I’d also suggest Restoration Hardware or LLBean – restoration hardware usually puts their robes/towels/blankets on sale around the holidays too.

I’ve been thinking about ordering from Faherty, which is a new to me store. I’ve also been checking out small local boutiques and museum shops – they’re really struggling and some of the local boutiques now have online shopping!

I’ve been in a phase of whimsical dresses that make me forget our current reality – Christy Dawn, Kara Thoms, Of Her Own kind. They’re pricey, but sometimes zoom appropriate, and fun to covet.
Any other recs along those lines would be welcome!
