I have a number of products from Society 6 and love them all, so I was excited when I saw that they recently(ish) added practical items like serving trays and cutting boards.
The serving tray, in particular, I could see being some or all of the following: 1) a piece of art on top of a filing cabinet in your office, 2) a useful way to organize things and give them a “boundary” on a wider space, or 3) a serving tray.
If you’re unfamiliar with Society 6, the deal is that many many artists can sell their designs through the portal, choosing to put them on a huge number of products, from laptop cases to throw pillows to shower curtains to more. It can be a little overwhelming — and it can be really difficult to find things again if you forget exactly what they were called — so try to make a note of things you like either by putting in your cart, adding to Pinterest, taking a screenshot, or whatever.
This pretty blue mountain scene looks lovely. The smaller size tray is 18″ x 14″ x 1.75″, and $39 full price, but today the brand is offering 20% off through tonight. (Some options are available through Amazon, but more seems to be available through Society 6.) Mountains cold Serving Tray
Psst: after writing this post I wound up buying a bath mat, an acrylic tray, and a cutting board — I’ll report back.
2020 update: Love the bath mat(s) (I have two now) and the acrylic tray; the cutting board is stunning but too soft to actually use for cutting.

Donations
Figuring out my husband and my end of the year donations. Anyone know of a way to donate to help towards the starvation crisis in Yemen? I know there are blockages in place which is why its so hard to get aid through. Would love to help prevent more senseless death.
Where else are you donating? We try to do a combo of local, national and international. Homelessness and mental health outreach are two other big focuses this year.
Jules
Unicef has a program in Yemen; you can donate through UnicefUSA dot org.
Jules
Also MSF/Doctors Without Borders is in Yemen
pugsnbourbon
For Yemen, I’d look at Red Cross/Red Crescent and Doctors Without Borders.
My parents both have Xmas-adjacent birthdays, and this year I’m getting my parents something from the Alt National Park Service or making a donation in their names. Anything left over from our own gift savings is going to our state’s abortion fund.

Donated to the famine in Western Afghanistan where people are now selling their kids to help feed the younger ones.

That’s really pretty.

Inspired by a comment this morning: what dating advice would you give your younger self?

You are so much better than literally all of these dudes.

Also, don’t get so effing drunk and have sex you might not want to have if you were sober.

Also re the “bad boy thing” –> just no. And if you are meeting them at your fancy-pants college, they are not really bad, just smart guys with issues who act not-smart. Which is as cool as a smart girl acting dumb for attention.
Ellen
This OP makes a lot of sense; I have tried to live by this, but men are so persistent that it was difficult at times NOT to accede to their wishes b/c they always said they did NOT want to have s-x with me; just to hold me w/o my clothe’s on. I was always gullible in college, and as a result, I often wound up haveing s-x with these guys, or something very close to it, even if not p-in-v s-x. Once I spoke with the others in my dorm, I figured out men would say anything to get to take my panties off even tho I was not interested in their thing’s. If I had to do it all over again, I would NOT have done any of this unless I was fairly confident they were interested in me for me, and not just for my body parts. FOOEY on me for beleiving them and FOOEY on them for deceiving me! I am a much smarter person now. YAY!!!
Cookbooks
(1) Don’t overthink it, and (2) don’t sweat the dating “rules.”

You might want to hang onto one of the good ones. There is an end to this line.
Anon
Develop the quality of being truly happy by yourself (easier said than done). This will save you from going through a lot of drama, heart ache and accumulating unwanted baggage for the rest of your life. It will also save lot of time , energy and get you to a better match sooner.

^THIS
Figure out who you are, what you want, and how to be happy with yourself. That’s more valuable in the long run than going on a hundred crappy dates to try and find “the one.”
Curly
Don’t get married at 22!
January
Don’t spend so much time thinking about the ones that got away! (Nothing good gets away).
Worry about yourself
Take your time before asking for any sort of commitment. In high school my boyfriends were quick to ask me to be my girlfriend and say “I love you,” but guys in college weren’t like that and that didn’t naturally occur to me, so I’d push things too far too early.
But also, if something about a relationship is frustrating me or stressing me out, and I’m more anxious than happy, I should just walk away. So many dudes I dated in college weren’t worth the aggravation, and if I’d had the strength to say “boy bye” I probably would have had so much more mental bandwidth to devote to my education and career prep.
I seriously cringe at all the BS I put up with from guys when I was younger.
Anon
Eh I don’t agree with this. The right guy won’t freak out even if it’s early. I asked my now-husband “what is this?” on our second date, because I was getting attached and didn’t want to continue seeing him if he thought it was a casual fling.
Anon
Yeah, no. If you have to suppress your feelings for somebody, that somebody is not the right one for you.
Anon for this
He doesn’t have to be “more” than you – more accomplished, smarter, etc. You are enough. If he makes you happy and it’s easy, go with it.
Walnut
End relationships that aren’t working. Just…end them. Give your phone to your bestie if you are at risk of relapsing. You ended it for a reason.

+1000, so many wasted years…

Don’t waste your time trying to figure out if a guy is into you, why he’s not calling, what he means when he says X. When a guy is into you, they make it clear. You don’t have to wait around for the phone to ring or obsess over every little thing he says looking for the hidden meaning. P.S., the guys who are legit into you and make it clear are more fun and less stress than the ones you’re constantly trying to figure out.
Anon
If you don’t want to marry him, you’re just not that into him.

The tray is gorgeous and such a cool idea! I had heard of Society 6 for phone cases but didn’t know they made so much other stuff.

The rule was to get something useful and so not the traditional white elephant gifts.
Worry about yourself
I’ve found that terms like “White Elephant,” “Yankee Swap,” and “Dirty Santa” have different meanings in different parts of the country, and they may even vary within a region among different social groups, so it’s always a good idea to specify on the invitation what kind of swap you’re doing – silly gag gifts versus useful things.
