flat sandal help
Hi, ladies. Can someone help me find flat sandals that are similar to Ancient Greek sandals (the brand) but not as expensive? I love the look of a strappy flat sandal with light tan straps, but I keep finding brown, black, or metallic as the default colors.
Anonymous
Check Etsy. I bought a pair from Sandelles that are great.

Those are exactly what I’m looking for! Thanks!
Coach Laura
Oooh, I really like the pink/taupe version for summer.
Ellen
Yay! I love NORDSTROM’s, but guess what, this reverseable tote is NOT real leather. It is FAUX (fake) leather, and that mean’s that you can NOT treat this TOTE with Saddel Soap or Mink Oil. FOOEY!
The manageing partner said he is annoyed at me b/c he made me what I am now and I am NOT being apreaceative for all he did for me. I said I was, but that I should be renumerated better (dad’s word’s). He said that he could bring this up at the partnership meeting, but that compensation decision’s are unanimous and that not all partner’s like me like he doe’s. FOOEY! I suppose I could stay w/o a salary adjustment, but then Dad would be mad at me.
Either way, I loose. Dad get’s mad, or the manageing partner and Frank get mad, or the other partner’s get mad. I would just like a REAL man to say to me “Ellen, you are smart, beautiful and can bear me children, so marry me and let’s get started on a family TODAY!” If a guy like Brad Pit or Jared Kushner said that, believe me, I would drop EVERYTHING and become a breeder immediately, and forget about this law stuff! YAY!!!!
Emmabean
Awesome bag. I’ve been wanting a Cuyano bag, but they’re sold out of the color I want. This might hold me over! Any thoughts on the strap length? is this an over the arm only bag?
Batgirl
This sounds like it should be easy to find, but it’s surprisingly hard: I’m looking for lightweight cardigans to wear to work over sleeveless tops in the spring/summer. I’d like something about as lightweight as the Jackie cardigan at J. Crew, but without buttons. Something that hangs a little bit cleaner without falling that far past the waist/hip. Preferably good quality but coming in under $75.
brokentoe
Look at Landsend. Lots of cardigans and several without buttons.
Veronica Mars
I love Woolovers–they’re really inexpensive and the fabric on the silk/cotton blend is beautiful!
NYNY
I’m recently obsessed with the Nic & Zoe Four Way Cardigan. It’s a lightweight linen-viscose blend, open front with a very slight waterfall effect, hits 5’4″ me at high hip level, and comes in lots of neutrals plus a few color colors. It runs around $100, but you can find them on sale for less.
I have only worn mine open – just one of the four ways – and have seen pictures of myself in it. It actually looks better in real life than it does on website models, maybe because in all the pictures I’ve seen of it open, the front is pulled across the bust as if it were to be closed, instead of hanging open more to the sides, as it really does on an in-motion human.

I recently bought a Lightweight Open-front cardigan from Old Navy and am pretty impressed with it so far. It’s a cotton-viscose blend with a nice drape. I haven’t washed it yet so I don’t know how it will hold up, but I’m planning on getting at least one more in another color.

I suddenly feel like 90% of my work pants are frumpy and gross. What are some more on-trend/skinnier leg work pants that are still dressy enough for a semi-conservative office? (Like, I wouldn’t wear anything 5-pocket or jeans-adjacent, but could do an ankle pant if it wasn’t too fitted.) Tall sizes preferred, if they are full length I need minimum 33″. I’m an hourglass shape size 12. Any thoughts?
ITDS
Look at Talbots – they have short pants in tall sizes.
Anon
Ann taylor has a lot of straight and ankle suit pants. Theory usually does also. I wear the Campbell cotton ankle pants from Jcrew at my conservative office on Fridays.
A
Sloan pants at BR. I have an ankle pair and got it in tall, though obviously it’s still at your ankle.
Anonymous
I think Theory makes the most flattering pants, and they have tons of modern, skinny, and ankle cuts. I usually order one size up.
AN
I like brooks bros skinny fit….forget what they’re called.

Thanks, all! I need to upgrade.
la vie en bleu
Thanks for everyone’s ideas for costumes for Bay to Breakers! My friends and I used your ideas to start brainstorming, and then we came up with Penguins for some reason ( i have no idea why). We made beaks, white bellies, and eyes out of felt, and feet to attach to the tops of our shoes. It was so much fun, our costumes were a big hit, everywhere we went people were saying “Oh look, those penguins are awesome!” And of course I had way too much to drink and am completely exhausted and hungover now, in addition to being sore from walking so far. But it was fun to do it once, just to be silly. ;o)
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
I’m so jealous you did Bay to Breakers and were dressed as penguins! I really want to do that race one year!!
la vie en bleu
well we didn’t ‘race’ exactly. ;o) We were part of the crashers bringing up the rear, and we just walked, slowly, while drinking. But you should do it! It’s quintessential San Francisco.
Wildkitten
The best costume I ever saw were people dressed as Salmon and ran the whole thing backwards (starting at the finish and running to the start).
la vie en bleu
yeah, it looks like they are doing that every year now. Swimming upstream to spawn. ;o)

Currently reading: “The Thinking woman’s guide to real magic” by Emily Cory Barker, started off slow but I’m now getting into it, so far so good
Baconpancakes
I need to read this right now.
(Former) Clueless Summer
Just read The Royal We and The Nightingale and enjoyed both very much. The Royal We is just ridiculous chick lit and The Nightingale is terribly sad but both were easy beach reads.
Dana
The Nightingale is absolutely engrossing, but yes, very sad. I cried through the entire final chapter.
Erin @ Her Heartland Soul
It’s a few years old but I absolutely love Beautiful Ruins!
KinCA
Currently enjoying Us by David Nicholls. I recently finished The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach and that was also really good.
Miss Behaved
I just read Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll and I don’t even know how to describe it. It just came out last week. It’s a thriller and a page-turner. I couldn’t put it down.
Anonymous
+1 for both Beautiful Ruins and The Art of Fielding. I recently enjoyed Yes, Please by Amy Poehler (not fiction but pretty light and very quick reading), The Royal We by the girls who write Go Fug Yourself, and Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng (this one is sad but an easy read).
Best Coast
The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowlings. Takes a while to get all the characters worked out, but so so good.
Senior Attorney
And also the mysteries by JK Rowling writing as Robert Galbraith: The Cuckoo’s Calling and the sequel, the name of which escapes me at the moment.
Office casual
My company is casual on Fridays, and now we’re casual from Memorial Day to Labor Day. I hope my coworkers are cool with seeing the same 5-10 office-appropriate casual outfits all.summer.long.
I swear, business formal is so much easier. Casual work attire just feels like a minefield.
Basics
Summer business casual garanimals!
– White jeans
– Black espadrilles/flats
– Selection of office appropriate T shirts
– 2 or 3 jackets or swackets.
Baconpancakes
Switch the ripped jeans with ones without holes in them, and KYO re the maxi dress, but here’s my casual (vs current business casual bordering on formal) summer wardrobe board:

Ummm, this sounds like the perfect excuse to do a fun wardrobe update. I would snag a pair or two of nice jeans (maybe one dark wash and one white), some versatile button ups (check out the Vince Camuto Two, also the outnet has tons of great Equipment shirts on sale), an airy sweater (linen or something with similarly light fabric), and a pair of nice flats. Totally good investment–you can wear some of those same pieces as biz-casual and you can wear all of them in your “real” life.
Baconpancakes
Will be in a situation where I don’t need my beloved business semi-casual wardrobe for the next two years. I’ll be doing a lot of walking, and jeans and other more casual clothes will be de rigueur, but I’ll be working my blazers, wrap dresses, and heels into the rotation whenever I can (heels and pegged jeans are apparently the thing according to Refinery29 this morning). But the sheath dresses? Suits? Big formal leather zip-top purses? Should I store them? Get rid of them?
Wildkitten
Do you have to pay for storage or do you have room to store? I’d cull the collection hardcore and then store what I determined was likely to be wearable in two years.
Wildkitten
The New York Times article about Old Navy raved about their ankle pants. Does anyone have them and have opinions? I am tall and normally wouldn’t wear ankle pants but I got a pair in my stitch fix that I love so much I might want more.
Senior Attorney
Yes, I just bought a pair and I am hooked. I may have to go back for All The Colors…
Bonnie
Tried them and hated them. The knees stretched out and I had diaper butt by the end of the day.
anon
I liked the maternity version, but the seams came undone frequently in the crotch area. You get what you pay for in terms of quality of stitching.
AIMS
Are these the pixie pants? I was initially impressed because I thought they were very flattering, but then the black ones were a total lint magnet and the patterned ones got a split on the butt seam before I even wore them out of the house. I stitched it up and then had another seam pop loose on the front. So not so impressed anymore. And they weren’t too tight, btw, just poorly constructed.
LE LVR
I had them and shrank a black pair to the point of saving it for my size 6X daughter. The denim ones — diaper butt.
LE had good ponte skinny ankle pants that were like the BR Sloan (love!) but half to 1/3 of the price (and washable, which the Sloan isn’t). I didn’t see them last time I checked, but I would rebuy in other colors. They have an “office” version now which I have 2 of (also washable).
Wildkitten
THANK YOU. I will try BR Sloan and LE. Ponte ankle pants may become a wardrobe staple if I can find good ones that work.

I have the Milan reversible tote (which this is a total copy off of!) from Sole Society: http://www.solesociety.com/milan-navy-stripe-navy.html
Only problem is the stitching along the top and the straps frays and then makes it look cheap :(
