Suit of the Week: Banana Republic Pinweave Suit

This week, we’re stepping a bit outside our comfort zone: we usually don’t like short-sleeved suits, nor do we like cuffed pant legs. (We just don’t have the height to pull ’em off.) However, we love the simple black and white weave, and we love that there is both a long-sleeved jacket and a short-sleeved jacket with the same fabric (as well as pants and an A-line skirt). The short-sleeved jacket is what caught our eye, actually — the slight puff sleeve, the cinched waist, the upturned collar. We’d also wear the short-sleeved jacket year-round — by itself in summertime, and with a turtleneck or scoopneck sweater beneath it in colder months. The short-sleeved jacket is $150, the pants are on sale for $77, the A-line skirt is $79, and the longer-sleeved jacket is $198. This is the kind of suit we’d wear with a simple black or white t-shirt beneath, and then go for loud accessories like purple shoes or a blue patent belt.

  1. this is one of the few short sleeve suit jackets i’ve seen that i like too. and i’m a bit taller than average and just can’t get behind cuffed pants either. there’s something sort of chunky/unfeminine about them to me or maybe just on me.

  2. Curses to you, Corporette! I am now the owner-to-be of ALL FOUR of those pieces! Plus some hand/machine-washable shells … and plus a new pair of jeans. I believe I have now maxed out my limit on my BR card! Ah, well. I needed some suits in the grey family anyway, and I love how it can be at least 3, maybe 4 different suits. I’m a touch nervous about wearing the short-sleeved suit jacket to the office … as I’m sure you will be waiting with baited breath, I will let you know. :)

Seriously, thanks for the tip. I can’t wait to get my new clothes.

Now off to find the wine (red?) stilettos the model was wearing with the pants …
