Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend. Jones New York Signature Stretch TrousersEvery so often, a “mom” brand hits one out of the park, designing a great basic piece that you'll wear a ton. We'd put these stretch trousers from Jones New York in that category. The rise is slightly higher than you might be used to, but low-rise pants aren't always (or even often) that appropriate for a professional setting. We like the slight bootcut, the fact that they're machine-washable, and the three different color options (black, chocolate, and the pictured charcoal). Available at Nordstrom.com for $89. 1. These are lovely! And I appreciate that the splurge price isn’t even too outrageous this week!

  2. Nevermind that bit about the splurge price. Busy week at work, and somehow extremely confused about what day it is! Still think these are lovely though!

  3. wow – those are really love and so unusual for the brand. Interestingly, the regular length, is still on the shorter end at 31.5 (as an example BR regular is 33 inch inseam while short is 31).

  4. As someone who was actually alive and at work during the 90’s I am here to testify that high-waisted pants do a great job of keeping button-down shirts actually tucked in. Extra added benefit.

  5. I think they are very “mom”-ish. way too high of a rise. i get that low rise arent always appropriate, but these look terribly unflattering for the backside.

  6. Eh, I think the high-rise/low-rise debate really has to do with proportion. I’m pretty young – early 20s, almost mid-20s – but I love higher rises because my legs are microscopic. High rise pants make my legs look longer and my torso shorter, and because of my proportions (short legs, short torso) the high rise is quite flattering. I can imagine it would look horrific on someone with long legs/short torso.

    so stop stereotyping!

  7. For those of us with big hips, I think the high rise actually helps accentuate that there is a small waist.

  8. ok, I am an older office worker and prefer higher-rise slacks. Here is why: I can tell you all the ridicule the “young ‘uns” will bring on themselves wearing low rise trousers in a work environment. The first time you have to stoop down to pick up files on the floor and your thong makes a bold appearance (I personally witnessed the knowing looks amongst three male partners in the room with a young associate and her bright red thong), your professionalism is mortally at risk!
