Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend. tights with peeptoe shoes to workWe really, really like these peep-toe t-strap heels, in either black (with green and purple accents) or brown (with red and beige accents) — especially for wearing with tights in the wintertime.*  They're classic in shape and subdued in color, but the colored accents make them far more interesting. The platform sole helps offset the 3.5″ heel, also. They're marked from $325 to $130 at RevolveClothing.com. Rafe Gloria Patent Platform Peek A Boo T-Strap in Black *In summertime we'd probably relegate them to weekend wear — both because the peep toe can be inappropriate to wear with bare toes, and because the patent and suede accents say “fall and winter” to us.

  1. Is it really okay to wear peep-toe shoes with tights at the office? Would it then only be appropriate to wear the peep-toes and tights with a skirt? I love those shoes – I love any heel with an ankle strap – but never having worked in a law firm in the winter, I’m curious about what wintertime dress rules are…

  2. It is never okay to wear stockings or tights with open toe or peeptoe shoes. No. No. No. Yigh.

  3. We’re curious: Is it because you think tights with peep-toe shoes is an inappropriate look for a professional woman, or because you think it’s just an ugly look (akin to socks with sandals)? If the latter — tons of fashion magazines show tights with peep toe shoes and the look is much (MUCH) cleaner and sophisticated than socks with sandals.

We couldn’t find any pictures of models wearing tights with peep-toe shoes, but here are some other articles on the trend:

  4. My concern isn’t peeptoe and tights but more that that’s a lot of shoe even for my relaxed office (we’re business casual although suits are encouraged for younger attorneys but generally the shoes/jewelry people wear are pretty flashy/fun). Still, that shoe has peeptoe/shiny/suede/multicolor and a pretty decent heel.

I’d wear them to our holiday party for sure but not to the office…

  5. Inappropriate, ugly, tacky…all of the above. Just because a blog or a magazine says something is “all the rage” or “totally hot right now” doesn’t mean it’s a good look that I have to like and copy. Uggs may have been popular at sometime, somewhere, but that didn’t and will never change my opinion that they’re hideous. While tights and open toed shoes may be less inappropriate, ugly, and tacky than socks with sandals, that doesn’t remove them from the inappropriate, ugly, and tacky line. For me, at least. But if seeing them in magazines and getting the “okay” from a blog–that’s designed to SELL the look–is enough for you, go for it. I’ll judge nonetheless, as will anyone else who didn’t know that reading something on a blog is now a substitute for taste.

Hmm, I never knew I was so passionate on the subject!

  6. Jay brings up a good point re the Uggs. Does anyone have an alternative to Uggs as something to wear to/from work in winter so as not to ruin your heels?

Most of the women I see either go with running shoes (which means my suit pants drag on the ground and get ruined) or Uggs (into which you can tuck your suit pants and which supposedly are comfy but I agree with Jay are hideous)

  7. I have to agree with Jay. Tights with peep-toe shoes are simply inappropriate for the office. Holiday party is a different story, although I’d still consider the peep-toe/tight look kind of ugly.

  8. Wow, lots of hate on the peep-toes and tights on here! I just thought I should jump in with a comment agreeing with corporette that it’s an appropriate and fashionable look at the moment. Especially if the tights are opaque and the same color as the shoe, many people will not notice and those that do are probably the type of people who are looking more closely at your clothes because they actually care about fashion – so they’ll probably appreciate the look!

  9. I’ve seen the peep toe plus stocking combo look cute, but it is not appropriate for the workplace – the combinations that do work are not professional.

  10. Though I’m not quite as passionate, I agree with Jay. Tights/stockings/socks should never be peeping through your shoes, whether sandals or heels. It’s just tacky. A lot of different trends are thrown at us–some of it is tasteful, stylish, and/or edgy and some of it is simply trying too hard to be hip or different. The people I find most stylish are able to sort through the junk and hype and come away looking fabulous. Tights with your peep toes is the junk and hype and you will not look fabulous in them.
And besides, even if you do find yourself thinking it’s cute–it’s so trendy, it’s distracting and thus, not appropriate for work.

  11. alternative to uggs…yes i’m wondering the same thing.

all i’ve found so far are burberry snow boots – a little too bulky for my taste, cole haan snow boots – a little too ugly for my taste and lace up sportos which are cute but i don’t know if there’s enough room to tuck in my pants leg.

    any suggestions!

  12. Alternative to uggs: I wear black leather riding-style boots with a practical design: flat heel, rubber sole, somewhat wide leg, and technically snow-proof. They are comfortable, great in the rain or snow, warm if you are wearing a skirt, and loose enough to put your pant leg inside. I keep the leather polished. I don’t think they look fabulous, but they don’t look half bad and they are much better than snow boots or Uggs (which I always have hated).

  13. Hmmm. I always thought tights with peep toes were cute – in a fun, vintagey kind of way. Not for work, though. The ladies who work at Betsey Johnson do it and I’d never call them tacky – they’re adorable. Of course, I don’t wear Betsey to work, either – I save that for the weekend.

  14. My bottom line – any look that shows a tights seam or the weird discolored stretchiness over toes is a bad look – for work or anywhere else.

  15. Just to add – I’m old enough to remember the days when women never went without pantyhose. Ever. Even in summer (glad that’s not the case now.) Maybe that’s why I don’t find this look so unusual.

  16. I wouldn’t wear these shoes (I don’t like platforms for work, as they scream “I want to look sexy” to me), but I wear tights with peeptoes that are monotone. If the seam is just a little under your toes it won’t show.

On the pants/comfy walking shoes issue – does no one else do a quickie safety pin hem for the walk? I fold my cuffs under and hide the bulk of the pin inside, so it’s not super obvious. No sneakers for me though – some trusty black leather driving mocs instead, or rain boots when it’s wet.

  17. Why do women love louboutin shoes? Why obsession the

world of christian louboutin pumps? Perhaps because

christian louboutin shoes shaped women’s posture; perhaps

because louboutin shoes given women the magic of

    rebirth.you may choose christian louboutin!!!!…….

  18. I agree with you, these Christian Louboutin is one of the most recognized name brands in the world of high fashion. You will find A-list celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Janet Jackson and Nicole Kidman wearing them. These shoes are becoming more popular with new designs and styles.
