I totally disagree. This is appropriate for work, I think, and would be a fun way to do a staff holiday party if it were a luncheon, but an evening holiday party requires a dress.

I almost bought this last week. This is the second time I’ve picked something and found that you did too. Funny!

Sequined t-shirt? are you serious? Sequins spell matronly.

Nope, this is not appropriate for an evening holiday party unless your company/venue is very casual (ours is black-tie). Ditto with the sequined t-shirt. I guess this would work for a very young person.
Love the jacket for work, however. It has a neat, retro feel to it and the wide, asymmetrical collar just works.

I don’t know, I agree with the editors — I went to my firm’s staff holiday party last year (I’m a fourth year at a NYC firm) and was wholly amused to see that all the first-year female associates showed up in party dresses. I’m talking strapless cocktail numbers with taffeta. OMG we died laughing — and by “we” I mean the other associates but I even heard the support staff laughing about it in the bathroom.
If the party is held on a Saturday, then dress up. If it’s held after work some day, the presumption is that you’ll go in what you wore to the office that day.

The important distinction here is: staff party v. attorney party. This would be perfect for a staff party, but entirely under-dressed from an attorney party (which is often black tie or at least black tie optional).
My office is business casual, but the staff — who tend to dress quite festively for the staff party — get offended if the attoneys don’t “dress up” a bit (a suit for the gentlemen — women have a little bit more leaway, but a suit is certainly the safest bet).
