Re: dogs for busy people, I actually think the chihuahua isn’t a great breed. They always seem pretty needy to me (I’m one to talk, considering I must have the neediest weiner dog on the planet).
momentsofabsurdity
Oops – that could be read wrong. I mean “isn’t a great breed [for busy people]” not isn’t a great breed in general.
kerrycontrary
I have a super needy weiner dog too! She does OK with me being at work, never destructive. But she is such an attention hog when I’m home.
momentsofabsurdity
Mine is usually pretty good with my being at work (sleeps all day) but there is no “I’m going into a different room without you” when I’m home. He even follows me into the bathroom which I’m sure guests to my home think is suuuuuuuuuuper weird.
kerrycontrary
me too! and If I’m on the computer she gets super pissed. Like “why aren’t you looking at me or petting me!” Oh weiner dogs…
mascot
Not weird, at any point my bathroom may contain me, a toddler and two (non-weiner) dogs. Sigh.
Granola
My big fat labrador does that – she thinks that’s a great opportunity for me to pet her as I’m sitting down and not using my hands anyway. Or, a good time to throw a ball for her. Non-dog owners would probably find this super weird.

The best dog for busy people is a cat.
RRA
Exactly, dogs really need human interaction, even if they are a breed that doesn’t require so much exercise. If not, they may turn to destructive behaviors (like chewing and digging) to relieve their anxiety. Please do not get a dog if you don’t have time to devote to it, or can’t afford doggy daycare/a reliable dog walker. My cats appreciate it when we’re home, but not as a basic need as a dog would have.

but even cats need attention! i feel so sad for cats whose owners go out of town for weeks and only have someone visit every couple days to change water/food. If you’re busy and going to get a cat, at least get 2!

I was very excited to see greyhounds on the list! They are awesome and super couch potatoes.
rosie
Me, too! Usually people are surprised to hear that about greyhounds and never consider them as low-maintenance dogs.

Pugs are wonderful dogs, but I’m not sure they would be good for a super-busy person, as stated in the article. They need a lot of loving attention, so if you aren’t home much, they may be sad. I had a pug for 12 years, he died last year at age 14, and I miss him lots, but I won’t get another one until I have more time to spend with it. I always felt bad about leaving mine alone so much. Might be better if you can get 2, so they have company. Also, pugs shed like crazy, even though they have short hair. Mine could walk across my white tile floor and leave a trail of black hair. But pugs are just so cute, and have great personalities.

I agree with this. I have a pug and he seems sad when I’m not around. He also follows me room to room and comes in the bathroom with me.
Can I just say that I love dogs so much. This thread makes me happy to hear all the dogs that loving follow their owners around!

My dog does this as well (golden retriever).

I don’t believe the H&M online shop until I see it….they’ve said that too many times
Maggie
Since there is no H&M where I live, I’m still keeping my fingers crossed, even if it is another fake out!

Sort of goofy question: Does anyone have a book about networking to recommend?
M
Never eat alone by Keith Ferrazzi. Number 1 book that was recommended to when I asked and a great read.
