Eddie Bauer Shaped Fit Clean Finish Tank Top

Reader K writes in, noting;

I had to let you know about this tank. I own it in four colors and wear it ALL the time. I don't typically shop at EB, but this is one item that I will continue to buy over and over. I love this tank because it is the only one that I can wear to the office without showing cleavage! I have a short torso and only wear a B cup, but any other cami (especially the ones with a built-in bra-type thing) tends to just shove my chest up and out, which is clearly inappropriate for the office.

The tank fits great and I wear it under almost everything since most things end up looking low-cut on me. It runs a little large, so I buy a size down. I also like that it is a smooth cotton, not ribbed, which would be too casual. This is a must have for anyone who has problems finding a cami / tank that doesn't show cleavage.

Looks like it's loved by many — it has 4.5 stars. It's available in burgundy (pictured), black, chambray blue, navy, chocolate, ivory and white (in regulars, petites, and talls) and costs $19.50 unless you buy two or more (save $2.50 each).

      1. Here’s keyboard confetti: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
        (sorry, best I can do)

    1. CONGRATS!!

I’m still anxiously awaiting my AUD scores. It’d be a lot easier to concentrate on REG studying if I knew about AUD…

    2. Congrats, Shayna! This week, my boyfriend also found out he passed the CPA exam on the first try. He said that only around 15% of people who take the CPA exam pass all four parts of the exam on the first try. You should be proud of yourself!

      1. Wow – really? I wondered but only saw the per test pass rates (which are already pretty low!) — That’s awesome!! Congratulations to your boyfriend as well!!

      1. Wow – 2 weeks? Have you started studying? I did FAR last and thought it was the hardest, and took four weeks to cram.

Becker – I did the online version (which is the same as the self-study but w/ deadlines) – if I had to do it again I’d do self study b/c I didn’t find the “message board” component of the online class very useful. Just watching the lectures, highlighting, reading, and using the flashcards (yes, they cost something like $200, but they are worth it).

It’s worth the $15 student membership to your state society (or whatever the I’m-not-a-CPA-yet-but-I-want-to-be membership option is) b/c you’ll get a $300 discount.

        1. I’ve been studying. I did the Becker self study (my firm paid for it) and have already completed all the lectures and HW. I’m using the next two weeks to review/cram. Just wanted to make sure I was on the right track. I figured I would take the hardest part first. I’ve heard stories of people leaving it until last, not passing it, and loosing the parts of the exam they had already completed because of the 18 month rule.

Also, I know it FAR will have significant changes to it beginning in January, and I worried there would be a lot of material on it that I never learned in school.

          Congrats, again.

    3. Congrats Shayna. I think you should buy yourself that dress as a reward. ; ) You deserve it!

    4. Thanks all :-D

I have some colleagues still working through the exam, so it’s nice to be able to (virtually) share with enthusiasm!

    5. Congrats Shayna!!! I hope I have similarly positive news to report back when I get my bar results in November!

  1. Congrats, Shayna!!! Now what are you going to do to celebrate?

I love tanks from Soma. No built-in bra (really, do those really do anything for anybody?) Lots of colors, dressy smooth microfiber.

    1. Second the recommendation for SOMA — the tanks are great (I’m building my inventory of colors) and the bras/panties I’ve bought on sale are all high quality and well-fitting.

    2. Not sure how I’m going to celebrate – but it’s off to a great start – my parents are taking me to a very ooh la la dinner at 4 star restaurant tomorrow night :-D

  2. I actually love bra tops, as I an slender and athletic and have barely A cups, and bra tops work perfectly under sweaters, suits, blouses, low cut wrap dresses, etc.

I am not clear if this is one or not? She mentioned shoving boobs up, so it sounded as if this does have a bra top, but the description at EB seems to suggest no.

And FWIW, I am always on the look out for a good bra top that doesn’t look cheap, thin and/or flimsy if anyone has suggestions. Thx.

    1. Garnet Hill rotates lingerie-brand bralette type camis in and out and also has a GH-brand underwire *barely* lined cami in the permanent collection that I collect in tons of colors and wear many times a week under work and date clothes… sometimes I’ll be sorting laundry and realize I wore one such GH underwire cami *every* day in a given week. They just tweeked the design (sorry!) and I haven’t bought the seemingly pretty-unchanged version yet, but I no doubt will– new colors, looks mostly the same as my beloved wardrobe fixture. I’m small-busted, too, but appreciate the bra-like sizing as I can get the band/overall size to fit my bod & then the cup to fit the girls. Love it.

        1. I wear a cami every single day for warmth and coverage both in the top front and bottom rear to avoid lower back skin exposure if I am reaching down for something. My current favorites are the neutral colored ones from Ann Taylor, with a bit of sheer trim along the neckline. For some reason, their color camis are made with a different, and IMHO inferior, fabric.

  3. Congrats Shayna! I’ve heard how incredibly tough that exam is. Go celebrate this weekend.

Thread hijack – there’s been some discussion about how some of us are introverts and feel drained by their jobs that they prefer to just unwind during the weekend. How do people cope with the opposite issue? I’m a classic extrovert, but I moved to a new city a few months ago and lack the social base that I had in my old city. I’m trying to get myself out there and join various organizations to try to meet folks that way, and it is helping. I also work in a reasonably social environment so I feel lucky for that. I’m trying to get used to the idea that some “me time” is ok, but I do end up feeling lonely now and then. My wonderful husband is an introvert, so he doesn’t fully understand my need to always be around friends, planning activities, etc. What do you extroverts do to stay busy?

    1. I like to take cooking classes or special interest classes from the local community college. You always have “something” on the calendar to look forward to and it is an easy way to meet people who you might not ordinarily chat with. It’s also so low commitment that if you don’t like the vibe or if other more interesting things come up, you’re not stuck in it for very long.

FWIW, if you have a dog (assuming it is equally social), I highly recommend hanging out at the dog park. It’s normal for everyone to kind of sit back and start up conversations while the dogs play. Or if you’re on a walking path at a dog park, almost everyone you pass will greet and ask what kind of dog, how old, etc. It’s an instant way to “get out there” that doesn’t have to be scheduled.

      1. In the past, I met a great group of friends by taking my dog to training on a regular basis. The same group always went, and we even started going out for dinner/coffee after the classes. It seemed to be a really great way to meet other great people – much more of a social activity than I would have thought.

      2. I second the dog park suggestion. I have met so many people through my dog.

And it sounds like you are doing the other thing I did when I moved to a new city and didn’t know anyone, which is joining organizations. I actually volunteered for the Rape Crisis Center and met a ton of people through that.

Also, not sure if this is something you’d be interested in, but I met a lot of people through church. I’m not really that involved, but just by going to mass, I’ve been able to meet some great people to grab the occasional Sunday brunch with.

Lastly, I’m sure you’ve thought about this, but see if your college alum association has any good events. I’ve gone to game watches, volunteer events, etc. that my college alum association holds and I’ve been able to reconnect with old friends and meet new people. At first I thought it would be mostly people who just graduated, but there’s actually a great age range at most of the events, from brand new graduates up to people in their 60’s. If you were in a sorority, your sorority’s alum association might have some good events, as well.

      3. Try meetup.com to find a dog group (or any other interest…it’s amazing what kind of groups are out there!). There are breed specific groups (I joined one that meets up once a month at a dog park – great for my small dog since she can play with other dogs without getting squashed) and interest based ones (I saw a listing for a group of dog owners that like to go on “real” hikes)

        1. I’d be interested to hear people’s experience with meetup.com. I found some pretty interesting book clubs in my city on there, but I’ve always been hesitant to try any of them out. Thoughts?

          1. Meetup.com is such a microcosm, you’re going to find all types of people hanging out. I’ve met some really nice people and encountered some oddballs-after which I stay away from that group. Good indicators of the eccentric vs. more normal are the group purpose itself (some strange interests out there) and the pics/people who have signed up for events. If many of the members don’t have regular, close-up pics of themselves, that’s pretty telling to me.

          2. Found a nice meet-up group for my dog’s breed! Not something I’d want to do every weekend, but fun to mix it up once in a while!

    2. If you are in any way crafty (or want to be) see if there is a place that offers classes in your area. I met one of my best friends because she was teaching a knitting class at Joann’s. That may also lead to knitting circles, scrapbooking get togethers, etc.

I also second the church suggestion. Some of my closest friends are from my church young adult group. I have a friend in another state who has met some of her closest friends from the local Atheist group after she changed cities.

      Good luck!!

      1. Thanks all for the comments and helpful suggestions! No dog, hubby is allergic. I have signed up for one meet up group and I am curious how it will be. Will keep you all posted.

  4. Congrats Shayna!

I have a question for DC Corporettes – I have finally come to the point where I need to hire a cleaning service – since getting married, my husband and I somehow have always managed to stay on top of cleaning (despite long work hours), but with health issues and long hours for both husband and I, we’re finally giving in.

Problem is – we seem to know no one who likes their cleaning service – put it this way, no one will recommend their service. I have seriously asked a dozen people.

So, do any of you out there have a recommendation. We really would like to go with a cleaning service company as opposed to an individual.

(when I had a roommate before getting married, years ago, we did have a cleaning service because it was easier to schedule than with an individual – ie with the service, we could always get slots of time we wanted, but with an individual we were dependent on the person’s schedule.)

Anyways, I would love any recommendations of DC cleaning services. VA and MD are ok too, as long as they will come to downtown Washington, DC.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I did not want to wait until the weekend open thread because I am determined to call and book an appointment fo rnext week. Our apartment sorely needs it.

    1. If you haven’t already tried it, check out Angie’s List. It’s the consumer-rated “Consumer Reports” for services in local areas. Don’t work for them but I definitely like the information they have. Decided on my dentist based on the info, and have been pleased.

      1. I second the Angie’s List, I don’t work for them either, but that’s how I found my movers and I was very satisfied.

      2. But make sure you do whatever you need to do to get off their call list. I’ve had them call me to “remind” me to rate businesses I looked at on their services – businesses I never ended up using and had nothing to say about. I found that very annoying.

    2. Maidpro. They are a national franchise and we use them in MD, but I know that they clean in DC as well. A bit more pricey than average, but they are EXCELLENT and do such a thorough job. The women who clean are very friendly and diligent.

  5. I know a lot of you are looking for basic black pumps with a lower heel and I’d just like to recommend a pair of Steve Madden pumps that I recently purchased. They are the Steve Madden ‘Ulltra’. They have a 2 3/4 inch heel. I’ve worn them to 3 different networking events this week, all requiring hours of standing, and I could still comfortably walk to my car at the end of the night.

    1. These look like just what I’ve been searching for — thank you for the recommendation!

  6. Thread hijack – I got a Target coupon in the mail for 20% off a shoe purchase, so I’m going to buy those wedges y’all have been raving about!

    1. I bought them in taupe and am wearing them at work right now. Love them.

PSA – Target has an online offer right now where you buy one pair of shoes, you get the second 50% off – I wanted to see the wedges in person so I got these at the store, but I’m considering buying a few more pairs in different colors to take advantage of that deal.

  7. Speaking of shoe deals, I walked past Ann Taylor yesterday (but didn’t go in, I’m so proud of myself!) and they had a sign up saying something like “If you try on a pair of shoes, you get $50 off if you buy them on that visit.”

    1. Yes, anon, you are precisely right! I was in there getting a sweater and a jacket I saw on the website…using coupons just expiring this weekend. No, I didn’t try on the shoes. On the earlier post about cardis…AT has tons of new, plain cardis in but nearly all seem to be that longer, boyfriend, behind-emphasizing length. Yes, I would rather have shorter ones. Their “new” slacks are all lined as advertized, but I feel that the weight of the slack fabric themselves is light and all have belt loops.

Such new ads at the shoe one seem similar to Talbot’s window offerings of $ discount when you try on their slacks.

Why not say “x off shoes/slacks” sale. I would think it waould be easier to read and mentally, more simple a concept.

      Good spying and resisting!

    2. It’s not as good a deal as they had this past weekend (40% off three or more regular priced items). I took advantage and bought a pair of heels among other things. The price off was $71.

  8. I have to brag about the great deal I got at DSW yesterday – they’re having a 30% off whatever else sale – so I got a pair of Nike Cole Haan pumps(originally $180-ish) marked 80% off + and addl 30% off – so I ended up paying about $17 after tax. And, I got double the DSW points for the original price of the shoes. YAY!

    1. Wow, I didn’t even know DSW had Cole Haans — what a great find! I think you just justified banking $163 into the fun-splurge fund ;)

    2. Gosh, I went to DSW for the first time and *really* looked last weekend. I have super-hard-to-fit feet (need extra comfort, wide, etc.). I found some Sofft brand pumps that are cute, stylish in a wide for only $69. Some gorgeous leather flats in a beautiful soft leather for abt $40 on clearance. I though this quality/variety was only available on Zappos!

      Can’t beat the $17 shoes, though….!!
