I was poking through Nordstrom’s Black-Owned Business section recently and was delighted to find another brand making a number of nude-for-you shoes in a variety of skin tones: Rebecca Allen.
This pointy-toed, patent flat looks great for everyday wear. For some reason, I think it would be a particularly great flat to wear with a dress, since it’s got such a sleek look.
The brand offers four colors of “nude” in sizes 6–11 for $150. If this flat isn’t your jam, the brand also makes sandals and heels in the same color spectrum.
(Also, just a reminder that if you love this color shoe but have a different skin color, then go for it!)

I used to think you could pry my pointy-toe flats out of my cold, dead hands but now I’m pretty sure they’re not current.
Anonymous
Agree. If I’m doing pointy flats, it’s going to look more loafer like these days. Maybe it’s the nude color as well? If they were a fun yellow or oxblood color or something I don’t think it would look so dated.
Anonymous
They actually are very in again. Bring them back!
Anon
Yeah, maybe not the nude but pointed toe flats are very in.
Anon
As a teenager of the 80s what you said is literally true for me. I’ve never stopped wearing pointy toed flats, and I never liked rounded toe ballet flats.
That said I don’t like nude-for-you flats at all. I gravitate toward silver (metallic) if I can find it.
Anonymous
I don’t know exactly what it means if #4 (crocodile) is nude for you, but it can’t be good.

Sunburn season? LOL

Thanks to the link this morning for the revival of the Everlane Day heel. I never would have found that on their site (I just got boots-sneakers-flats as my shoe options for women). Now will JCrew make a knockoff?

Oh I’m glad you saw it!

Also when did Ellen disappear?

She’s still here and comments on almost every post, but we don’t approve them for a long time (10 days) if at all.

Thank you! “She” has become more and more annoying over time. (Although we’ll always love her for giving us JSFAMO.)

I’m fascinated that she hasn’t given up yet.

Aww, (fooey) I wish you’d let more through. Maybe set up something where one gets through every week on time?
She added some special weirdness and it’s oddly comforting to know she’s still out there.

repeat post, I think I know what word triggered moderation:
I asked, also, when did 3llen disappear?

It’s good to know somebody is making nude-for-her flats…

Ha! My best Nude for Me shoe was actually called Bronze. Too much bronzer, I think?
anonymous
This seems a little racist…
Curious
It’s not a color name, it’s just one of the alternative prints is a pinky crocodile. So I’m not sure who it would be racist against? The linked pick has nude I (mid brown) to nude IV (pasty).

I need new bedroom furniture. I have a nice simple 4 poster mahogany bed I’d like to keep. All the other pieces need replacing as they are a mix of random stuff from rooms DH and I have had along the way. We’re [email protected] near 40 and want stuff that works for us.
Need at least 2 dressers and night tables. Ideas? Colors/woods that will coordinate? The bed is an heirloom piece but very simple.
aBr
I’d look at HouseandGardenUK on insta for inspiration if you are trying to mix and match heirloom with other pieces, also DominoMag (or really, a lot of UK design websites). Since the bed frame is wood, I would do something with a good amount of contrast for the night stands – either with a bunch of architectural texture or a painted wood. Bernhardt (carried by a lot of stores) has a bunch of options along these lines – the Skylar could be fun if that’s your taste or the Adagio. Crate and Barrel also has some good, solid reclaimed wood pieces now. Otherwise, you could always do vintage.

Ballard Design or Ethan Allen. The four poster is going to rule out a lot of the popular Scandinavian minimal/mid century modern leaning stores that are really popular.
Anon
If you want to buy new furniture rather than scouring FBMP for used, Ethan Allen has in-house designers who can consult on what would go with your existing bed.
Check Pinterest for bedrooms that use a four-poster like yours and see which ones you like. You can very much go in a modern direction in an opposites attract sort of way or you can try to coordinate. Up to you and what appeals to you.

I think nude-for-you is best done with a heel. Wearing nude-for-you flats always looks barefoot from down the hall!

I have a week off in early March. Where should I go? Want to keep it to the continental US but otherwise open to anything. I’ll be traveling solo, budget is 1Kish, and I like art, culture, history, good food, and walkable places.
Allie
Where are you coming from?
Duckles
Normally I’d say NOLA but that timing is yikes. I’d go LA— I spent a solo long weekend there during the pandemic and really enjoyed good takeout, the beach, and hiking, and I assume a lot of museums etc are open now too.
Anon
As long as it isn’t the week of March 1 (Mardi Gras Day), I think that it would be fine! The week after Mardi Gras should be relatively quiet.
pugsnbourbon
Hmm. St. Augustine, Jekyll Island, Charleston or Savannah if you’re coming from the Midwest or East Coast. I think by the second week of March you start getting spring breakers in FL.
pugsnbourbon
St. Augustine is in FL, duh. Writing fail.

Where are people getting more modern, straight-leg jeans these days?
I am 5’3″ and with a curvy waist-to-hip ratio (usually am in a size 26-27 jean) and have liked my skinny jeans but am wanting to dip my toe in the more current look but every pair I have ordered has been a total dud! I tried Madewell, Jcrew, AGolde Frequency, etc. Either too gaping at the waist, or too big in the thighs (almost never a problem with me, butt and thighs is where I store my weight), or one pair that was weirdly really baggy in the cr*tch. My husband said they looked like they were from the men’s section of a general store. Many were also really baggy above the knee which I was hoping for a little more streamlined through the thigh? Any hopefuls you have found?

I’ve posted this once to twice, but I was super happy with Sene! They make them custom to your measurements, and I even added a note that jeans tend to be too tight on my thighs and they seem to have given me a bit more room. First time in years that straight legs have looked like straight legs on me and not skinny jeans.
Anonymous
Not sure if this is your style, but I am OBSESSED with Levi’s ankle ribcage jeans. I think they are the perfect silhouette for everyone. They look a bit frumpy on the website, but in person they’re so high-quality and tailored-looking. I’d recommend the Goergie color as a a good basic colorway. My two best friends have also bought pairs and love them. (Get a size bigger than you’d usually go for, though).

The Pilcro line from Anthro works really well for me and my sister loves the new Abercrombie! (As an elder millenial, the Abercrombie recommendation makes me a little sick, but she swears by their curve love styles.)

Remodeling Q– I am installing hardwood in place of the existing carpeted bedrooms in my home, and it will abut the wood floors in the hallway that already exist and are not a very modern color. I’m not planning on refinishing the existing hardwood at this time, for both budget and hassle reasons and because I don’t dislike it personally. Would you 1) try to match the existing wood, even though it’s not current, 2) install modern wood finishes that are substantially different from the existing so it looks intentional, or 3) something else?
Anon
I’m planning something very similar and I am going to match the hardwoods. I also don’t dislike the color that’s “out”. No one knows what color floors will be current in 5, 10, 20 years and I would definitely prefer matching.
Anon
I personally would match existing. If you’re looking at whatever’s current just because it’s current, I don’t think that’s worth it to have mismatched floors. If you *like* what’s current than go for it.
Anon
Do what respects the existing architecture. As long as the wood is a color that exists in nature, it’s fine – classic and timeless.
Curious
Really depends on the color. If the hall is dark brown glossy wood, I would hate it anyway and do a color I loved in the bedrooms. But I love honey oak, which isn’t “in” right now, but I would totally match it. Gray was in for a while and is very much on its way out, so I wouldn’t do that. Are you thinking like a Nordic looking blond wood for the bedrooms? What reads modern to you? What color is the hall?
Duckles
Ding ding ding on the honey oak floors! Currently in the process of repainting the all-beige house and it’s been a struggle finding an “in” neutral that pairs well with them. I have a light-colored, high-shed pet so as much as I love the look of dark wood (that seems to be what everyone’s using the past few years) it looks instantly dirty in my house, which is why I don’t hate the honey oak. So was considering maybe matching but in herringbone in case it’s a bit off, or going white wood.
Anon
Do the honey oak if it matches the rest of your house. Other colors are trendy, meaning here today gone tomorrow, and flooring is expensive and a huge hassle to “update.”
Curious
Okay so. Paint colors. We love Navajo White with our honey oak floors, and that’s pretty timeless. We also love Benjamin Moore 1660 Polar Ice. If you want more greyed out colors page me next week (I’m in the hospital this week) and I can grab our grey (fine) and our grey blue accent wall (amazing with the honey oak). Obviously it depends on your lighting but maybe that’s a start?
Curious
And I love the idea of mixing up the pattern but not the stain. YMMV, but in my experience, white will ding too easily — we had it in our last apartment with no pets and barely ever shoes and it was a mess almost immediately.
Duckles
Thanks for all the suggestions! And well wishes to the poster in the hospital.
Anonymous
I would keep all the floors the same. Honey oak is a classic and it will make the space feel much more cohesive and finished.
