This is adorable. Considering picking it up to wear to a bridal shower. Not totally sure I’d wear it to work, but might!
Love the dress, which btw looks to be $270 rather than $350. But if I get it everyone will know that I shop at Corporette!
While I like the pattern on this dress, I certainly wouldn’t say it has a relatively high neckline. I can count three sternum ribs on the model! If a gal had anything more than an A cup, this dress could become what one of my minister friends calls “a festival of inappropriate sharing.”
(Her blog, called “Beauty Tips for Ministers” is here, if you like a bit of snark with your religious fashion advice: http://beautytipsforministers.com/ )
Agreed; that would show half my bra. But I love the pattern and I think it would look fine with a cami, so I’d give it a try if I had the money to spare.
I don’t think this would be too low cut on me. Instead it looks like the detailing would fall smack in the middle of my chest and look really awful. My sister and I always joke that we look good in the opposite style dresses since she’s shaped more like this woman and doesn’t have problems with the empire waistlines being too high.
I think this would be quite the adorable dress on a twenty-something working at an advertising agency or other creative position. And it would be quite fun for a social event.
Re the other thread discussion about heart-shaped jewelry looking too young – personally, I think this, adorable as it is, is more young-looking than heart-shaped jewelry.
I would not say these horizontal stripes are flattering. I’m very tall and thin, and the more I wear things like this, the more I look like I am playing dress-up with prints that are too loud. One rule of thumb for me–no horizontal stripes, abstract or otherwise.
PS–Brooks Brothers’ big sale is on as of this morning. Check it out! Some great, classy handbags and shoes, along with the usual (more boring) fare.
Is this a new one or the one that they’ve had over the weekend that ends tonight??
(Sorry, I’m at work & can’t get that distracted! Thanks for the tip!!)
Casual-ish Fridays + tank/ camisole underneath = A+
The abstract stripes at the bust look too much like a target for moi!
This is not what is meant by casual Fridays. Casual Friday is not a time for lower cut necklines or brighter patterns. It’s a time for relaxed pants and sweaters, clothes that are more tailored and less dressy. For women, it’s sometimes a chance to wear stuff that is a little more masculine in cut or style. it does not mean dressing up for the day in anticipate of a Friday evening date, I don’t think. It’s nice to look as though you are embarking for a fun country weekend at the end of the day.
As we’ve all discussed in the past, dress codes vary from firm to firm, office to office. In some places, casual Friday is a time to bring out the brighter patterns and fashion forward pieces that are too out there for traditional corporate wear. Your opinion is stated as fact, and while this may be part of the culture where you work, I think for many places, your statement is not accurate.
While I don’t know how flattering this dress would be on me, I could imagine a colleague looking great and work appropriate in this dress. Would anyone in wetter/colder climates pair this with tights and boots? What about a very thin, form fitting black jersey t-neck underneath if it didn’t lump weirdly?
I agree. I am in a creative/artistic field and dresses like these are part of normal business dress in our office. I would certainly wear this with tights/boots but not too sure about a turtleneck beneath. I think it would look great with a leather jacket (it’s in the 30’s and probably won’t get too much colder where I am).
I’m starting to get into the turtleneck idea more. I think it could look nice under this, no necklace, maybe a cuff bracelet over the turtleneck sleeve.
There are some areas like Florida and parts of the South where brighter colors are generally allowed as part of normal business attire. Not everyone wears dark, muted colors all the time. I think this would be fine in a typical FL workplace with a cami underneath.
The thought of embarking on a “fun country weekend” right after work on Friday just made me laugh out loud (no disrespect intended). We can agree to disagree here. =)
The thought of embarking on a “fun country weekend” has me picturing Bridget Jones with hilariously windblown hair, post-convertible ride.
For some it’s a “Friday evening date” & for some it’s a “fun country weekend” — as long as you know what ‘s within the bounds of propriety for your workplace, I say enjoy!
I know – I’m not quite sure what a fun country weekend constitutes (horseback riding? gazing at foliage?) or how one dresses for it, but I’m pretty sure I personally would look like I was wearing a Halloween costume if I went for that work. No disrespect to those for whom that works as a personal aesthetic, but it would look so forced on me.
