For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
This week, we’re loving this Furstenburg suit from Bloomingdale’s. The flared hem, the straight, knee-length skirt, the slightly shaped shoulders — it reminds us of a (slightly) more affordable version of the Dior suit from a few weeks ago, and, like that one, seems inspired by the heroine of a noir thriller (without being costumey).
The jacket (Diane von Furstenberg “50s” Black Stitched Crepe Jersey Jacket) is $495, and the skirt (Diane von Furstenberg “50s” Black Stitched Crepe Jersey Skirt) is $298.

Was really liking this suit until I zoomed in to see the “exposed tonal threads” – no thanks. The skirt reminds me of the Herve Leger bandage dress.

That should be “exposed seams in tonal threads” – sorry about that!
DND
Initially, I liked this suit, but after a glimpse of the detailing on the skirt, I am not a fan.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does “exposed seams in tonal threads” mean? I don’t get a clear picture of black garments on my monitor. Thanks.
Kathryn
You can see the seaming on the front of the jacket–there are visible black stitches–pickstitching–they look to be maybe 1/4″ long each running down the front. The darts may even be raised–can’t tell. I like it, but…

I bought a similar DVf skirt, without the exposed seam in Vegas a couple of weeks ago, that and the “Thane” dress. Both are really pretty but if you have curves, they do give a whiff of sexy. If you are in a very conservative office, you might not be comfortable. The model waering the dress must be well over 6’ft, though because I am 5’10” and both the dress and the skirt fall just below the knee.

yet another item i’ve been ogling . . . there’s also a matching sheath dress. (swoon.)

Love it.

Wow really pretty. I’m probably too curvy for it to work on me but if I wasn’t I’d make it my new big day suit.
Kathryn
Why not–might be perfect on you! The jacket, at any rate–maybe a different bottom.

Lovely – but do the sleeves seem short on the model?
Amber
I think they do seem a little short. I have a suit that has sleeves that length and I never wear it without a long-sleeved shirt under so that I have something covering my wrists.
Sarah
Wow that’s gorgeous! When it goes on sale, post it again!
KLo
I love the tonal seams! Great suit

LOVE.

Love, love, love. Almost wish I had to wear suits more frequently.

Off topic – I bought this suit in “Moonlight” from Banana Republic last week, but I’m thinking I can’t wear it until spring because of its light color. Right? I’m trying to decide whether to keep it.

If you live somewhere warm, the color probably won’t matter as much since people don’t really move into the dark colors as much in autumn/winter. The style is a bit more casual, so in colder climates you might be able to pull off wearing the pieces as separates. Even if you decide not to wear it at all now, if you got a good deal and it’s flattering, there’s no reason not to keep it because you can’t wear it until spring.

Love the shape, HATE the detailing. It reminds me of the time I needed to hem a grey skirt and somehow managed to convince myself that staples would blend in seamlessly. My only defense is that I was still in high school, but still, ugh.
I actually think it would look best on a curvy figure, although perhaps a bit too sexy for the office. Maybe it would work for cocktails or something? The jacket would probably enhance an hourglass figure, but the skirt may hug curves too much.

If I had $700 to spend on a suit right now, I’d buy this in a heartbeat.

If I had an extra $800 lying around, I’d have to grab this one. Its beautiful! I love looking professional and pushing the fashion envelope a bit.
