For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional. Collarless blazers are one of my very favorite kind of blazers, and this sleek one from Ann Taylor, with a tiny black and white print, looks great for a fun suit. I like it as styled with a plain white or black top beneath it (am I the only one who feels like color can be really tough to integrate in a stylish way into a mostly black and white outfit?), but might go for a red lip or red nails with it. The jacket, pants and dress are $109-$189 — and today if you buy 3+ items you can get 50% off, by 2 get 40% off, and if you buy 1 you save 30% off. Nice. I live in NH and Tulsi Gabbard is making a big push here. I’ve watched her speak on a variety of issues on various shows and she seems aligned with the democratic stance on most issues. There are a fair number of republicans that support her too and that makes me wonder what I’m missing – except that she’s the least extreme of the democratic candidates. I’ve read the concerns that she is going to run third party but she adamantly denies that. I’ve read the concerns that she’s gone on shows like Breitbart and Joe Rogan but she has maintained her democratic views on those shows. I don’t see a problem with trying to win over “enemy” votes and think it is an important strategy for anyone that wants to beat Trump. I don’t fully understand the claims that she is a Russian asset. This is the source I used to try to see her stance on issues that are important to me:
https://www.politico.com/2020-election/candidates-views-on-the-issues/tulsi-gabbard/
Aside from her signs being kind of corny, what’s with the Tulsi hate? Anyone know?

Cynically, I think there’s a massive preference for people who have come up through the political machines in their cities, or have been immersed in D.C. for many years. There’s a feeling that these people have been vetted, are known quantities, or (bluntly) are easier to control because they owe so many people that they can’t actually be too independent.
Absent that, you want someone who toes the line on the issues, such that funding from various groups can be withdrawn if they don’t play nice.
Tulsi Gabbard has been doing her own thing, doesn’t owe anyone, and seems to want to develop her own opinions instead of being accountable to specific political groups. Hence the hate.

She’s been meeting with Assad
Anon
I wouldn’t agree with your ‘least extreme’ assessment, but I would look up her trip to Syria and meeting with Assad for more information on the Russian assest information. It shows a pretty clear lack of judgement.

Lol do you know how to read? She’s a nut job and you’re trying to create drama.
anon
This reads exactly like someone in PR for this candidate wrote this, under the guise of anonymity as a NH voter.

lol yes

Absolutely.
Anon
Yep.

I’m a regular poster here but I’m not sure how to prove it to you. Fleece tights, one blue finger nail and a hair tie on my wrist? Is my water bottle professional? Not trying to stir drama, trying to find reliable things in the press.

Heh. That’s enough credentialing for me. :)

Regular reader is not mutually exclusive with shill.

Well, you’ll just have to take my word then. I hadn’t given her any thought until she moved here and started showing up everywhere. She’s in my local press daily. I wasn’t finding the right stuff googling and thought others might have resources. Thanks to those that answered my question. I know how to read but none of the articles I read discussed the Assad stuff.
To the person who just said “she’s nuts” I’d appreciate if you explained further if it is reasons beyond what other people here said.

Yes, Assad. She took an unofficial trip to Syria and became the first sitting lawmaker to meet with him, thus legitimizing his genocide. She has equated the rebels that fight Assad (a man who gasses and murders his own people) to al-Qaeda. Look, nobody wants violence or unrest, but her “let’s have a sit-down” with a butcher was at best a serious, serious sign of naivete (and lack of power, too, again, she wasn’t there on official business) or at worst siding with a murderous dictator, a term which she would not acknowledge for him until it was clear that waffling on calling a dictator a dictator was bad politics.
I applaud her military service and admire her accomplishments at such a young age, but the Assad connection combined with her anti-lgbt rights (not just as a teen but even putting her power as a congresswoman behind it) show that she has made incredibly serious mistakes of judgment in the not-too-distant past. I’m also not aware of any major legislation/changes she has introduced or sponsored that have been masterpieces. In short, she has had good ideas, but she has had some seriously abhorrent and extreme ideas, too (and just hasn’t done all that much). Fine for congresswoman if she serves her district but not ok for president.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply. I’ll look up the anti-lgbt stuff too. I try to be well read but I’m honestly not as up on international political issues as I’d like to be and I consider myself more educated than the average voter.

As a woman of Indian descent living in America, her cozying up to the BJP and Modi is enough for me (in addition to the Assad/LGBT comments noted above). There’s been some pretty good coverage in the recent press (including a great article in the New Yorker) about Modi’s role in horrible riots in Gujarat that led to thousands dead, largely on the Muslim side, and his recent policies (Kashmir, no more naturalization of Muslims in India), is part of a dark path leading to nothing good for Indian Muslims.

How would you style these?

I wear them with skinny jeans but any time I branch out of that (like with a dress or skirt), I feel schlumpy.
NOLA
Leggings and a long tunic sweater?
Cat
I don’t care at all for taller booties with skirts or dresses as it makes me look like an Edwardian schoolgirl with stumpy legs.
Under bootcut jeans (let the fun studs peek out when you sit down)?

With skinny jeans.

Great look. A short sweater dress would be fun,
FleeceLeggings
36 weeks pregnant and so over it! I’m looking to splurge on something I can enjoy post-pregnancy, but it’s complicated by the fact that I have no idea what my post-partum body will look like! I guess what I’m looking for are forgiving fleece pants that I will be able to wear outside of the house and not look schleppy and that are gentle on a C-section scar. Do those exist?
Anon
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but there’s a pair of Lululemon leggings (Align) that somehow became unofficial maternity leggings.
Also, Loft’s fleece maternity tights are the most amazing things ever, if you want to grab a pair for your last few weeks. My husband is jealous that they aren’t made in men’s sizes.

I am in love with these pants and I think they’d be very gentle on that area: https://www.universalstandard.com/collections/active/products/cooper-jogger-pant-merlot

Can anyone recommend a spa in Portland, OR? I want to give a massage gift certificate to a post-partum friend and would appreciate any suggestions.
