madewell
any idea when madewell will be having a sale on everything? also, any reasonable dupes for their transport tote?

Once again, I have to say it. I love this site, I love this community, I hate the idea that in order to get more plus sized sale info I need to sign up for a separate newsletter.
I already don’t read most of the newsletters I get now. If I really wanted to know where the handful of plus sized stores that fit me were having sales I can just sign up for their spam myself.
Kat and Kate, I love you but the plus sized newsletter ticks me off. Especially since as far as I can tell neither of you are actually plus sized so I don’t know how much help your recommendations actually could be. If you had a plus sized guest/co-blogger I might be a little more inclined, but even still I probably don’t want a newsletter.
Ok, rant over – and now I’m going shopping (IRL, not online for once) for new shoes and a new handbag, because those always fit.
Anonymous
Agreed. Newsletters are kind of 20 years ago, and the amount plus size news probably isn’t substantial enough to warrant dividing it off.

I was also surprised and annoyed when I saw that, and I don’t wear plus sizes.
Ellen
I also love this sight, and I am petite with an oversize tuchus! Yay
Marissa Mayer
Just read the Marissa Mayer news finally. There is a lot of criticism for her decision to only take two weeks off with twins. Beyond the criticism there are those who are defending the decision as an example of being able to balance work and family. But no one seems to have brought up the issue of what’s best for the kids. Sure being CEO comes with a lot of pressure, but despite the wealth and privilege that comes with the position, I do wonder why she doesn’t cut herself some slack to spend more time with those infants. I don’t have kids but even to me two weeks–and working throughout during that time–seems abit much.
Anon
I think – and I’m not a parent yet so take this with a grain of salt – that being provided with loving care is what is best for kids. I’m not sure if it makes a huge difference if the food, cuddles, diaper changes, playtime, etc. is being provided by mom, dad, another relative, a nanny, or a daycare provider. Babies need care. Parents need to make the choices that work best for their family.
A lot of women in this world have to go back to work immediately after giving birth without the luxury of being able to afford, literally, the best care that money can buy.
If you are really concerned about what is best for kids, there are a lot of charities that you can donate to that are working to address the crisis of Syrian refugee migrants in Europe. Because I think the fact that, for some people, risking life and limb to put your family in a tiny boat and cross a major body body of water because what you’re leaving behind is even riskier to your safety is a much bigger problem than the length of Ms Mayer’s maternity leave.
Marissa Mayer
I am aware that there are people facing greater peril in the world. I’m also not a parent but I have always assumed that people who choose to have kids would like to spend time with them in those early days even though it is exhausting. With money you can pay for the best doctors and caregivers, maybe I’m missing something but I wonder whether something else is lost that isn’t exactly quantifiable financially.

Honestly, I don’t think her career is really applicable to the working mom work/life balance debate. She’s a CEO. She should do what she feels is best, which should absolutely not be projected onto other women because none of us are CEOs and frankly we are never going to be.
Marissa Mayer
To anon 3:03pm: My comment was not intended to try and project her situation to what other working women’s situations. Having read some of the articles that attempt to do this, I don’t think it’s applicable. To me it’s like an apples and oranges comparison, two different stories.
Anon
If you criticize dads who go back to work after two weeks, sure. But I’m guessing you don’t. Children need loving and devoted parents. They don’t need mom specifically around more than anyone else in their first weeks.
Anyway, she has a nursery next to her office. She’s probably with them more than most moms.

You are right I don’t criticize fathers who go back to work after two weeks, the reasons should be obvious—-it’s the mum who just delivered a baby. But yes I do wonder about men who don’t take advantage of paternity leave when the option is there.
Anon
If your going to concern troll about what’s best for the babies to actually not clear why it matters that the mother carried them.
cant even today
Yeah in the entire debate regarding working mothers, no one has *ever* brought up whether the woman’s choices are “what is best for the children.”

She’s probably going to miss the time with her kids but they’ll be fine (or no worse off). They’ll probably benefit from great care from a non-exhausted, non-stressed out, shut-in mom, which is what most of our kids get for the first few months I think. CEOs of large companies can’t take any more time than that, and I don’t think she should have to give up her job, do you?
Helene
Is tat REALLY MARISA MEYER? She is with child x2!
