2016 Update: These are still some of our favorite wear to work recommendations from 2010, but you may also want to check out our 2016 roundup of favorite workwear suggestions. Every weekday here at Corporette, I offer one suggestion for an item that I would wear to work. Sometimes readers love the item, and wow do you guys hate it sometimes. Sometimes *I* love it, sometimes it was just the best I could find given the restraints (for those who haven't noticed, Monday and Tuesday tend to be pricie r items, Wednesday is in the $100-$150 price range, Thursday is in the $50-$100 price range, and Friday is in the $0-$50 price range.) Still, as the end of the year approaches I thought I'd look back over the past year and choose my personal favorites from the things I recommended… each picture is from one month, and the picture links back to the original post. Some of them are still available (such as the purple cardi pictured at![]() |

The blue sheath dress – gorgeous! The lines would do great things for someone with curves.
AND! It’s on sale right now for $57.00 :) Lucky sizes 12, 14, 16 only though. Still. What a good deal.
I ended up with 3 of those Frenchi cardigans after seeing them on here. I don’t wear them often at work, but they’re my go-to on the weekends. Love the cut and the colors!
I have two. Wearing one right now! I do wear them to work a lot, as I wear cardigans almost every day and these are two of my favorites.
I really like all three things on the top row, as well as the Burberry blazer. I clicked it hoping it was a Friday TPS, but of course it was a Monday. Sad day.
Wait, does this mean that Corporette is taking off next week and the year’s over?
i’ll still be posting tomorrow, and there’ll be a holiday open thread, but for the most part it’ll just be deal alerts until the new year. sorry!
Also, I met a friend of mine for dinner just a few days after the post featuring the French Connection shirt, and it looked so cute! I know some people were hesitant to wear a shirt that has birds on it, but it really looked quite chic and even sophisticated. The draping was beautiful.
Thank you, Kat, for all the care you put into your posts. Sometimes emotions run high and commenters can be unnecessarily unkind about your choices. This is a good time to be reminded that a real person chooses the clothes on this blog.
May you have a wonderful holiday season and a great new year.
Well put, Louise.
Happy holidays to Kat and all the Corporetters out there!
Agreed. Very well put. Obviously, every reader isn’t going to love every pick, but I think it says a lot about Kat’s choices and thinking about all her readers that at least a few readers do love each pick.
I bought the silk mini-dot blouse from White House/Black Market after it was featured here. It really is lovely, but the neckline is a little low, and requires a plain black camisole for work. Still, it works great with the outfit I’d envisioned for it – indigo straight-leg jeans and a white blazar. Can’t wait for spring so I can wear it again!
Kat, I’ve always been curious: how often do you typically end up purchasing the items that you recommend ? I’m sure there are many that we all just admire, but still, hope that you at least picked up some of these favorites :) Best wishes for the holidays!
weirdly enough, when i “shop” for the blog it kind of sates my shopping bug personally. so i don’t buy that much lately (either of what i feature here or just see elsewhere in my shopping) — and what i do buy i return probably 80% of it. i always joke that most women have themselves and their mothers in their head when they shop, but i also have my readers — makes me too picky!
This is funny! I guess we readers could be an odd extension of both yourself and your mother…
Most of your picks are impeccably chic and cute, Kat, but you do tend to have expensive taste.
I am still dying for that Burberry belted sweater. It’s so outrageously overpriced, but I’ve never seen any cheaper sweaters look quite so polished and high quality.
