Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: Banana Republic’s Short-Sleeve Seamless V-Neck

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.
Good basics are hard to find — so when they go on sale, it's even better. Through May 25, Banana Republic is having an online-only Memorial Day sale, marking down lots of simple tees and camisoles, all available in white, black, brown, and navy.
Our favorite is this short-sleeve seamless tee, pictured here in “true indigo” — we'd wear it beneath a suit, or with trousers and a blazer, or perhaps a pencil skirt and a cardigan.
Was $30, now $20. Women: Short-sleeve seamless v-neck tee – True indigo

I love BR for work basics. They tend to fit really well and look professional. My favorite? They carry PETITES! Gotta love that. Too often “petite clothes” look more like something that belong in a nursing home with elastic waists and tapered legs (and NOT in the good way…) So it’s a relief when some of my favorite retailers cater to my needs. Aghm. Thank you BR and J.Crew!
This is a GREAT basic blouse and a wonderful piece to expand a limited professional wardrobe, especially for students, new graduates or people just entering the business world. I LOVE this blog and have added it to both my Blog Roll and “Job & Career Links” at Practical Paralegalism. I get a lot of newbie legal professionals seeking ideas and options for their work and interview wardrobes, especially for conservative legal environments, and I will be referring them to this site to show them how it’s done!

I recently read an ABA article entitled “Male Judges Advise Women Lawyers to Lose the Distracting Alley McBeal Look”. One of the judges is quoted saying that some women come to court wearing “skirts so short that there’s no way they can sit down and blouses so short there’s no way the judges wouldn’t look.”
The article suggested taking a look at corporette.com for appropriate dress in the courtroom. My personal wardrobe challenge is not to look frumpy but still dress appropriately. Thus, after seeing this post, I immediately bought two of these shirts for work.
Unfortunately and ironically, these shirts are far too low cut to be work or court appropriate. There seem to be plenty of work appropriate Banana Republic shirts. I am disappointed in corporette.com’s wardrobe advice on this one.
