Look at this beautiful chair! I'm in love with the colors of the cotton upholstery, and I think the symmetrical design with the central focal point is an interesting alternative to the more typical all-over pattern of upholstered chairs. Anthropologie allows customers to submit photos with online reviews, so check those out, too! Most of the reviews so far are very positive. (The photos show that a simpler, black-and-white pattern was also available originally but is now sold out, alas.)
This chair would look great with a rug similar to the one pictured (it looks like it may be jute) or with a sisal one (or else with a soft, cream-colored rug); hardwood floors would complement it really well, too.
The chair, which was originally priced at $1,298, is now $899.95. While, unfortunately, sale furniture like this is excluded, today you can get an extra 40% off sale items at Anthropologie!
(Note that the chair doesn't arrive as shown but is “easily assembled,” according to the product description.)

Holy effing f*ck. Biden is making himself a one-term president. The military has my utmost respect, but their civilian commander-in-chief has failed them.
Anon
Didn’t Biden run on the premise that he was going to be a one term president?
bbb
He’s hinted at a second term.
Anonymous
No. He did not.
Wha?
He’s 78. Isn’t nature limiting him to one term? Are people seriously thinking about reelecting an almost 82 year old?
bbb
This could not have gone any worse.
Geer
Every time he is on TV either his tone is wrong or his message rubs me the wrong way on this. Or both. Fixing this seems to beyond him but the too-quick pullout is in him.
Anonymous
Yeah, I did NOT like his combative, defensive tone at the last speech. This is a time for owning his responsibility for the withdrawal process.
Anon
OMFG he just needs to stop talking in public. This last one . . . not getting better.
Anonymous
Are you out of your mind? It has gone shockingly well. It could have been dramatically worse. Losing a war is always terrible.
bbb
Tell the parents of those dead soldiers it’s gone shockingly well, and the Americans still stuck there, and our translators who helped us, and . . . .
Like seriously?
And yes, I was exaggerating when saying it couldn’t have gone worse. It clearly could always be worse. But to say it has gone shockingly well is insulting.
Anon
Yes. This has been rather successful. Obviously any lives lost today is a tragedy, as is the fact that we can’t evacuate everyone who wants to. This operation was doomed from the start, and has been surprisingly smooth and successful
surely you jest
hahahahahaha what.
anon
12 soliders died today and y’all are like, wahoo, go Biden!
anon
Given that COVID outbreak is a global pandemic, Trump’s handled the situation shockingly well. It could have been dramatically worse. A global pandemic is always terrible. Any lives lost is [sic] a tragedy, but it was surprisingly smooth and successful.
Anonymous
Dang, that’s a perfect response.
Anonymous
12 Americans dead and evacuating 10s of thousands a day is not the worst this could have gone.
anon
Ugh are you one of those people who refuses to wear a mask while shouting about the 99% survival rate
Anonymous
No? What a bonkers comment
anon
Not bonkers at all. I’m trying to figure out whether you have principles when it comes to human life, or just politics. Looks like it’s the latter for you bb :(
Anonymous
This could actually have gone a lot worse.
It’s a very bad situation but the airlift has been an unprecedented movement of people in a short period of time. I’m shocked that the US abandonment of the Kurds didn’t embolden ISIS sooner.
Anonymous
It’s absolutely shocking. I’ve been feeling sick over this. I’ve called my representative and senators but feel pretty helpless.
AnonMom
I would have called my rep but he was IN KABUL getting in the way. So infuriating.
Anonymous
This is a terrible take.
Anon
He has been warning that we have to get out of Afghanistan because our troops were in danger of terrorist attacks but I agree this is not playing well in the media.
bbb
Wait, what? You’re saying he’s been “warning” but nonetheless this is “not playing well”? He’s the commander in chief! This has been bungled from day one and I am confused how you seem to be saying it wasn’t Biden’s fault.
Anonymous
How do you think it goes when you lose a war.
Anon
Afghanistan is a 20-year rolling disaster that was started by Bush II and perpetuated by Obama and Trump. Biden’s now coming in and trying to clean up the disaster and yes, it sure could have gone better but it also could have been a lot worse. If you think that somehow this situation is 100% Biden’s fault, I would recommend you turn off Fox News and try consuming some media that isn’t delivered by low-IQ hypocrites who use too much teeth bleach and self-tanner. Faux News was on at the gym yesterday when I was there at lunchtime and predictably they are trying to make this look like the worst thing that could ever happen in the history of human events, when it’s nothing of the kind. Unless you actually are Kayleigh McEnany (and if so – please, girl, ask us for some style/presentation advice), I wouldn’t slavishly believe anything she has to say, like “this wouldn’t have been so bad under Trump.” It would have been worse. Biden’s doing a tolerable job with a really bad situation. I shudder to think what Trump would have done. Probably pulled all the planes out and left everyone to rot because Afghanistan is a “sh*thole country.”
Anon
“Afghanistan is a 20-year rolling disaster that was started by Bush II and perpetuated by Obama and Trump. Biden’s now coming in and trying to clean up the disaster and yes”
WHAT? Biden was a Senator for the first seven years of the war and was the Vice President for the next eight. He’s literally been in the Senate or the White House for 75% of this war.
anonshmanon
hmm, so as the commander in chief, this is all totally his fault, but for the last 19 years of this war, when he wasn’t commander in chief, he also gets the blame?
Anon
Except for the last 19 years he was hardly a stranger to this. He was VP for 8 years and a senator prior to that. And ran as the grownup who’d bring back a real foreign policy.
This is not a tolerable job. The news is beyond distressing and it keeps getting worse. I get the feeling that it was bad and every day it spirals.
Anon
Trump made the agreement and left it for Biden to execute it. Like the coward that he is. There is a great deal of shared responsibility for this situation. I’m gonna throw US intelligence in that bucket too.
Geer
I wish we were like other countries that have a no-confidence vote. Because I have no confidence now.
Anon
This is how I feel about the pandemic response. Whatever happened to flattening the curve?
Anonymous
DeSantis. Kemp. Abbott. Talk radio. . . .
Anon
DeSantis, Kemp, Abbot, and talk radio prevent democrats from talking about flattening the curve at a time when our hospitals are struggling?
Anon
I mean…what else did people expect to happen? This in no way demeans the terrible attacks that happened today but…there have been regular terrorist attacks on weekly basis for 20 yrs, you thought a terroristic force would keep their word (although reports I’m reading are that this was an ISIS not Taliban attack but who knows). In all honesty, this has gone remarkably well that they’ve gotten tens of thousands of people out in the span of a couple weeks and had a few hours notice of a possible attack.
Is months of regular attacks with more dead and injured citizens while slowly pulling out better than moving out all at once? I think a nice portion of media is digging into the minds of people for views without stating the obvious – this would have been awful no matter who was in charge by very nature of pulling out of an occupied territory that is actively falling to a terroristic tribal government.
Anonymous
I echo this comment. Take this for what it is worth – I am not in the military, but I have an uncle who is a now retired army general who was over there multiple times, and several cousins who were deployed over there. They all think this is horrific, but it was NEVER going to end well. It is horrific, it isn’t ending well. Stepping back a bit more, Afghanistan has not really ever been a United country – it’s a loose collection of places that have some geographic proximity to each other. I don’t think this makes it any less horrible, but I also am unsure what people expected to happen. You cannot evacuate hundreds of thousands of people “ quietly.”
Anon
What has happened in Afghanistan is a tragedy, but it’s the height of American arrogance to think that you get to control the way a war ends when you lost (it’s also incredibly arrogant to only start paying attention to people dying there now, when Afghans have been dying there for the last 20 years). Losers don’t get to decide the terms, and there are a million ways that this could actually be a lot worse than it is right now. Everything we’ve done in Afghanistan has just made things worse and the sooner we get out, the better. Biden knows this. Ezra Klein’s column in the NY Times today is fantastic: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/26/opinion/afghanistan-us-withdrawal.html
bbb
We are complaining about our soldiers and citizens being left there, yes. But you are saying we’re just supposed to accept it since we lost the war? Stop being such arrogant Americans worrying about your countrymen dying!
Like seriously, I haven’t seen anyone from either side defend this until today. (And I watch CNN, thanks.)
Anonymous
I agree. I find the responses “what did you expect” and “this was a long war” to be intellectually lazy. There is no excuse for this horrendously managed evacuation and withdrawal process. I DO expect better than this sloppy, murderous, kindergarten-level display of “organization” from the U.S. military.
eertmeert
“I DO expect better than this sloppy, murderous, kindergarten-level display of “organization” from the U.S. military.”
Exactly, thank you.
Bungled
Completely agree. This has been bungled operationally, tactically, and I would say strategically. Removing air support, abandoning Bagram, tying up SIVs in needless red tape, handing over lists to the Taliban, and begging the Taliban to help us and meekly asking for their support. Bungled on every level.
Anon
Except that the military works for the civilians in charge and sh*t flows upward. The people on the ground follow orders given by someone not on the ground. They figure out how to get sh*t done with whatever and whomever they have on hand.
Who is the commander in chief? The buck stops there.
Bungled
Posting here to say yes–the buck absolutely stops with the civilians in charge. They messed up here. Not the military. We have a civilian-led military–this is always drilled into the military. All the mil advisors can do is advise. They can’t violate the direct orders from the President/NSC/civilian security apparels.

I actually don’t think we lost.

Posted too late on AM thread – I’d love your recommendations for outdoor wireless security cameras. I have a ring doorbell but the additional cameras for that seem a bit pricey. I have two back doors and would like a camera at each that uploads data either to my phone/computer or the cloud.

We’ve been happy with our Eufy video doorbell (it’s just the equipment cost, no subscription). It looks like they also offer standalone outdoor cameras.

Worried
I have a random fashion question / poll about what constitutes a tight Jean fit vs a good fit vs a current or ‘fashionable’ fit. I have been conditioned by my mom who always favoured a looser fit, and as a result, I’ve always purchased most clothing on the looser side….loose enough that sales associates always try and convince me to go down a size. The jeans I’ve been thinking are ‘skinny’ that I have been wearing, actually look much more than straight leg jeans on me, especially if I shorten or roll them up. My mid rise boot cuts from a the gap, look like flares because I chose a slightly looser fit. Maybe this is a fit issue as I am an hourglass with thinner legs. Recently, I went in store shopping after a weight loss and tried on many pants and jeans I thought would work, and all the new styles are still too baggy in the legs, even in my waist size. I ended up purchasing jeans labelled as skinny, but basically they look like fitted, but on me they are straght leg jeans, which is fine. I realize I will buy whatever looks and fits best, but how loose or tight do you like like your jeans? Sorry for the novel, but this has me wondering if there is a magical formula that goes across styles and trends that I never learned!
Anon
If you have big hips and skinny calves, a lot of jean styles just won’t look right on you. Try slacks or skirts.
Worried
This is validating to hear:) This is what I’ve realized and why I gravitate towards dresses and skirts. I had to replace my cooler weather jeans as I’ve gone down a few sized, but thankfully I may be done with the search for some time!
Me
Or bootcuts?
AZCPA
I don’t think there’s a magical answer here. Beyond not cutting off circulation, it’s a preference, likely guided by features you want to emphasize or minimize, style of jeans, and what’s comfortable for you.
Personally I like bootleg/flare on the looser side, and skinny jeans more fitted. I’m very hourglassy, and those fits make me feel confident and flatter my body.
Worried
Thank you from another hourglass! This has been my style direction so far as well
Anonymous
No, there is no magical formula. You’ve discovered and articulated two things:
• a person’s leg size and shape affects the way the jeans look on them. I have heavy, curvy legs and a slender waist. If a woman my size with a thick waist and slender legs put on the same pair of jeans I was wearing, she and I would look like we’re wearing two different cuts of jeans.
• Trends affect how jeans are cut and what kind of fit people think is current. I grew up in an era of baggy fits. When skinnies came along, I thought they were insanely tight. Now, we’re back to looser cuts, something I never thought would be current again.
So all you can do is buy a cut and a size that fits your leg the way you decide you want. You can buy a baggier cut in a smaller size to get a narrower fit, or you can buy (like you mentioned) a skinny jean in order to get a fit that’s more like a straight leg. Your choice.
I don’t think you make a distinction between “tight jean fit,” “good jean fit,” and “current jean fit.” Current jean fit is often looser. Does that make it “good”? It’s in the eye of the beholder. People who love their skinnies and hate mom jeans would say no, the current fit = bad fit.
Worried
Thank you! You worded this so well…I agree wholeheartedly with your analysis. This lays it out in my mind— especially as someone who does not buy jeans that often.
Anonymous
This isn’t a real worry. Even on a fashion blog.
Anon
Who put you in charge of deciding what is or isn’t important to other people?
Worried
Not a worry….more of a dissection of curves styling!
Worried
I mean cut vs styling not curve.
Curious
Lolololololol thank you for letting us know. Any other topics you’d like to prohibit?
Anonymous
No help on the jeans front but I empathise with buying clothes too loose based on how you have been brought up! I often though look at people in tv shows or ads and think they couldn’t love life day to day in clothes that tight. The way a blazer fits an actress in a show is not how people can wear one and lift their arms.
Worried
I’ve wondered how much people can tolerate tightness and for how long. I have been replacing all the uncomfortable shoes and clothes over the years and it’s not easy to go back. Some people may have less sensitivity or a higher tolerance!
