MICHAEL Michael Kors 'Carla' SandalSomething on your mind? Chat about it here. Interesting — these sandals come in six colors, and all of them have glowing reviews on comfort AND style from — and this is the really interesting part — women in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. (This includes one review I find hilarious, where a 20-year-old talks about being 5'10” so she wants low heels). Anyway: they're only on a baby sale (20% off) but they sound kind of amazing. I'm drooling over the taupe (pictured), but they're also available in black, vanilla/black, luggage/tangerine, silver, and vanilla/silver — they were $149.95 but are now marked to $119.90. 1. Sale at barenecessities right now. Just bought my first pair inspired by thissite!

  2. I know it’s already pretty late in the thread, but anybody have any strategies for getting through to someone who absolutely refuses to take criticism?

  3. And someone just said we didn’t need a “report comment” button. Kat – can you ban “Vonda” or whoever this is?

    1. You want to ban a commenter because she may be a joke? Isn’t that just really silly? This is why I am Team No Report all the way. I don’t read most of Ellen’s comments either btw, but I don’t think “she” should be banned. There are other “real” commenters or threads that I don’t read either. Just skim and skip, it’s not hard.

      1. I would agree – I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve read yet that really deserves a “Report Comment” click. There is stuff I skim over, sure. And stuff that I wouldn’t have said and didn’t agree with, but that resulted in a discussion. But nothing that was so over the top awful/offensive that it needed to be censored out.

I’d be interested to hear/know how the usage of the “Report Comment” function turns out, down the road.

        1. I suspect the existing moderation settings catch anything that is likely to be legally classifiable as hate speech or inciting violence, so I too am curious about the intentions for “report comment” and how it plays out if Kat sticks with it. Personally I don’t feel that trolls, “fake” comments, or personal attacks in poor taste should be taken down, and I don’t know what other categories apply.

This is intended as a reply to Mpls but I see that a lot of replies are posting as new threads…

          1. Sneaky spam is one, definitely, and hen another thing I would guess could be a worry here if someone went out of their way to “out” someone’s personal details – I don’t know if the filters that exist would catch on someone going “y’all know Monday is actually Jane Smith who works at Shark, Cutler and Jellyfish out of Third and Pineapple”, you know?

      2. Here’s the dirty secret behind most of the uncivil commenters (or, say, attacking commenters who talk trash about other commenters) — they are not interlopers but are actually regular commenters who are (I suspect) having a bad day and posting anonymously. So they’re not really bannable in the grand scheme of things.

Glad to hear that so many people are for free speech and discussion — it’s how I’ve always tried to run this site and why I haven’t pulled comments like that before. I am still open to pulling the “report comment” button in general, but for now, think of the “report comment” button as a way to slow down nasty commenters — the comment may or may not get thrown into the mix, but if enough people report it at least it has to wait until I’m sitting at the desktop to moderate it (since the WordPress apps for iPad, Android, and iPhone all stink for moderation).

        1. (Oh, and just to reemphasize this — the “report comments” button only puts the comment in the moderation queue/calls it to my attention/removes it from the discussion if ENOUGH people (from different IP addresses) report the comment. I’m going to keep the magic # to myself for right now…)

        2. I just feel like I have never actually seen a nasty comment here. I feel like people who give the more straight forward advice will end up being moderated, and this will become only comments like “hugs” and your the best!

      3. I am also ‘team no report’. Not because its not annoying or people don’t say awful things, but because I think sliding comments under the rug is pretending like they don’t exist, and people don’t really think those things. It is important to know the lay of the land, so to speak, and to see the range of opinions. For example, I was disgusted with some of the comments about Bradley Manning’s coming out as transgender, but I think its important to know what other opinions are out there, even if I find them abhorrent.

    2. You are silly! Your handle is DAR. It can’t be Daughters of the American Revolution because freedom of speech is what they stand for.

I won’t say what I think it means because you are too sensitive. Are you out of touch with reality or are you skittish when published articles use the V word?

Whatever. Get a life, girl! This is the 21st century!

    3. This is DAR and I did hit “report” on a very long post that was written by “Vonda” that was clearly inappropriate (not the one above about jewelry) and it had p*nis and other terms and was clearly written just to be annoying. That post has been REMOVED (I assume by Kat) so I stand by my comments. I can’t believe y’all are jumping on me – I was not mean nor am I vindictive. It was my opinion and yes DAR is for free speech, which I am exercising, while following Kat’s rules. Jeez people.

  4. Why do all the dresses have such short waists these days? I’m 5’3″ and pear-shaped and have plenty of other fit problems. I just want something that hits at my natural waist, for the love of God. Do you think buying a tall size and having it hemmed would help? Or is that going to look crazy through the arms?

    Thanks for any guidance.

    1. Don’t know what the solution is, but I was thinking the exact same thing just the other day. The narrowest part of my body is my natural waist, at the belly button, so anything that has a waist above this and flares out from there just makes me look bigger than I am. But I’ve decided I have enough clothes that if it requires alterations I’m not going to bother buying it since it will probably languish in my closet for a long time before I bother to take it in.

      1. Don’t know what the solution is either, but I just wanted to add that my natural waist is actually about 2 inches above my bellybutton – so there is a demographic being served. But seriously, this is one of the biggest problems with women’s clothing – you have to know what kind of body type your brand is catering to. And one brand/style/cut will never be able to serve all body types – there is just too much variation to make it profitable.

It could also be the style is trending back to the 90s with the crop top/babydoll look….

  5. Threat jack.

I’ve lost the ring I got from my parents almost 5 years ago, for my 18th birthsday (here, where I live 18 is celebrated as a most important birthsday, becoming an adult from the legal point of view, etc.). It was a white gold band with small diamonds, priced between 400 and 500$. What shall I do? Confesa? I know that they still produce it, so shall I just buy a new one and pretend it has never happened (plus get an inscirption it came with)? I really really feel bad about it, was wearing it everyday, considered my lucky one and wanted to give to keep in family. Sigh, I’m so stupid to loose it!

    1. If you can afford it, buy the ring again. It sounds like you will get a lot of use out of it.

    2. Are you sure it is gone for good? Sometimes I lose things and find them a few days later. Don’t give up hope yet.

  6. Ladies, it’s late in the thread, and this is a totally weird request, but I am trying to find someone who can photograph a street sign in the Noe Valley in SF for me for a friend’s birthday. If that might happen to be convenient for you (the sign in question is near Glen Canyon Park), please drop me an email at my name plus the email google brings us. I can pay you only in gratitude, but I promise that next time I’m in SF, I’ll hunt you up and buy you an adult beverage.
