For those Corporette’s who are “ample” but not plus sized (12-14, US sizes), what are your best outfits/pieces? I don’t know if I am an apple or a pear, but my waist has slowly disappeared, and the bottom half is definitely NOT my better half! I do wear pants, typically with blazers, and longish skirts, but I’d love to expand my wardrobe. I have about 25 plus blazers in my closet, and it always seems like I have a deficit of pieces for the lower half to pear them with. Links especially appreciated!
This thread gets little or no action. You’ll get way more responses if you post again in half an hour or whenever the weekend thread goes up.
I have a similar issue, but I don’t have many suggestions without pieces in front of me.
I will say that I find blazers can be aired with almost anything and make you look polished and great the majority of the time. I wear them with jeans, trousers, skirts,… all that.
I would recommend sheath dresses with a jacket (especially the ones that come in a set). I used to be really self conscious about wearing skirts or sheath dresses, because I was concerned my legs didn’t look good. But overall, a sheath dress does wonders for my apple figure (with the right undergarments). I get the most compliments when I wear this kind of outfit.
Okay, I am an unrepentent hair dyer. I even went BACK to blond after a couple-of-years-long experiment with going gray. But really? “Senior men apparently notice and hate seeing women with little gray hairs sprouting up?” Are you freaking kidding me?
Argh…
Yeah, I care about this about as much as I care what men think of my nail polish color.
I effing LOVE my grays, all six of them.
I have SO much gray now. On purpose. And every time I post about it, a man will speak up in the blog comments to tell me I ought to dye. I swear there’s something about our aging that still doesn’t belong to us.
I’m surprised that neither Kat nor the Careerist threw in a well-deserved “F That” to the finding that senior men don’t like female colleagues to show gray hairs. So I’ll do it for them. Women are allowed to age. (See also my rant about George Clooney a few days ago…)
Thanks! If ever some pushback was called for ….
It’s Jordan and I am catching up on some threads. Saw you have allergies and cannot take zyrtec (at least I think it was Godzilla and now I am doubting that I am remembering right). Anyway Green tea, stinging nettles, quercetin, and lots of water helps with my symptoms. I can take zyrtec but it makes me sleepy so I can’t if I have to work or drive.
Green Tea is packed with a powerful antioxidant phytonutrient called EGCG that blocks histimine and immunoglobulin E. Both of these naturally produced chemicals are linked with uncomfortable allergy symptoms. I switched to loose leaf green tea which I got for cheap in Chinatown NYC. Now, I order it online but if you are in a big area, the loose leaf stuff is good. The Chinese say pre-bagged tea is the equivalent to instant coffee. Sure it looks like I have a big bag of drugs at my desk but at least I am not sleeping or sneezing all day!
Quercetin is an antioxidant, antiinflammatory, and anti-histimine phytonutrient. It has an excellent ability to reduce allergy symptoms and increase lung function. Onions and apples are excellent sources of quercetin.
Stinging Nettles were used for thousands of years by native americans for treatment of allergies. Sometimes I get this thrown into my smoothies at this smoothie store. You can also get it in the dried form for tea, liquid tinctures to take as drops, or capsules. It sounds hokie but it totally works. In addition to drowsiness, some allergy meds cause heart problems so if this works to reduce your symptoms like it does mine, totally worth it.
The last thing is for anything, drinking lots of water always helps. 10 glasses a day is what I try to do – add one more for each glass of coffee or wine you have.
Babe, you are FR3AKING AWESOME for thinking of me! Coincidentally enough, I am drinking green tea right now, so it’s good to know that I’m doing something right. I’ll definitely try the other stuff, too. Thank you for following up!
:)
I’m going to a bachelorette party tonight & the dress I’m wearing requires one of those stick-on bra things. Even though I’m not very well-endowed, it doesn’t feel supportive in the least and makes my b**bs look kinda … shapeless. Any tips for making this thing look and feel right?
I’m very interested in attending your event in Seattle, but I can’t find the time for the event. Can you tell me what time the event will be held? Thanks!
