Coffee Break: Pointy Toe Ankle Strap Pump

This shoe reminds me of the Valentino Tango pump that’s everywhere right now. I believe Linea Paolo was a reader favorite years ago, and they kind of disappeared and now they’re back, which is exciting. These are very reasonably priced, only $140, and they come in sizes 4-13, which is a pretty broad range. We’re picturing the black suede, and the other choices are black patent leather and a lovely bronze leather which may be a good nude-for-you shoe, depending on your skin color. Here’s a lower-priced option.

Weekend Open Thread

Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

I’m obsessed with any top that has this thumbhole kind of sleeve because it’s a cool look. This rayon-blend shirt is very low cut, but it comes in a zillion colors and looks great for the weekend. It’s available at Nordstrom for $68 in sizes XS-L. Free People ‘Malibu’ Thermal Top

Here’s a plus-size option in the same rayon/spandex blend.

Update: the top is now marked down to $41 in the big winter sale at Nordstrom.

Tuesday’s Workwear Report: Paperbag Belted Stretch Wool Pants

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I think these stretch wool pants are lovely. This is a really classic look, and it reminds me of Katherine Hepburn. I think bodysuits’ popularity is waning, but if you happen to have any that are work appropriate, these pants are perfect to pair one with. Otherwise, just wear these with a regular blouse tucked in. The navy pinstripe is nice and will always be in fashion, and I like that there are no cuffs, as I’m not a fan of cuffs in general. These are 99% wool with 1% spandex, and they’re available in sizes 2-16. (Note that they’re labeled dry clean but not “dry clean only.”) The pants are $229 at Nordstrom. Classiques Entier® Paperbag Belted Stretch Wool Pants

Two lower-priced alternatives are here and here; here’s a plus-size alternative.

Coffee Break: Water Resistant Bootie

waterproof-wedge-boot-paul-greenThese boots from Paul Green are water resistant and have a fleece lining, making them the perfect choice for the winter weather we’ll be “enjoying” soon. I also like how they’ve got a sort of architectural heel and a fun little tassel detail. Handmade in Austria, where the brand is based, they are available in either black or brown suede and in sizes 5.5-10.5. (Note that Nordstrom’s product description advises customers to size up. Fortunately, Nordstrom offers free returns in case you pick the wrong size.) The boots are $389. Paul Green ‘Jada’ Water Resistant Bootie

Coffee Break: Synal Flat

synal-flat-marc-fisherOooh: these little pointed toe flats are bestsellers over at Bloomingdale’s, and it’s easy to see why — I love the bit of gold in the heel, the classic pointed toe style, and the wintry suede (for non-slushy days or office shoes, at least). Bloomingdale’s has them in three colors, Zappos has them in five, and Nordstrom has them in eight colors — all for $140.  Marc Fisher LTD. Synal Pointed Toe Flats

Looking for a more affordable option? These $49 flats are reader favorites.

Coffee Break: Shaye Rain Boot

ugg-rain-bootsI never quite got into the UGG craze, even though I own a pair of the classic style — I mostly just wear them as slippers around the house on leggings/skinny jean days. Still, I keep hearing great things about the comfortable shoes the brand makes — and if you’re on the hunt for a new rain boot, particularly for cold days, you may want to check out these bright rain boots. I love the removable shearling insoles — they look incredibly comfortable and cozy, especially for those days where you skip the boot socks with your rain boots. (Nordstrom reviewers rave about the insoles, but you can see them best in the Zappos video.) The shoe is $79, comes in seven solid colors and about five patterns, and is winning rave reviews at both Zappos and NordstromUGG® ‘Shaye’ Rain Boot
