Trying to figure out how to eat healthy while working from home? Whether you find yourself snacking all the time, drinking too much, or just generally stress eating (yaaaay 2020/21), these are some of our best tips…

(A general caveat to this post: There's … a LOT going on in the world! Have a cookie if you want a cookie. Hell, have ten. That said…)

How to Eat Healthy While Working From Home

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

I like to fill a 32-oz water bottle at the beginning of the day to use as a carafe at my desk. Not only will you avoid suffering from headaches and other symptoms of dehydration, but remembering to drink water will help you recognize real signs of hunger. I like this 32-oz. water bottle and Kate's a fan of this 20-oz. one

At the beginning of each day, place a healthy snack by your desk

Planning ahead — choosing and rinsing a piece of fruit, for example — will help prevent you from making less-preferred choices later in the day when you're tired and/or stressed.

Set periods of time that you'll consider your kitchen “closed”

This will help you avoid wandering into your kitchen when you're not actually hungry, just bored.

Consider eating the same lunch every day.

This is one of my favorite things to do — I eat a variation on eggs almost every single afternoon for lunch and it's easy, affordable, predictable, and prevents decision fatigue. We had a whole discussion on eating the same foods all the time…

If you find yourself snacking every afternoon, try drinking tea

Drinking tea is a great way to make sure you're actually hungry instead of dehydrated, and it's a happy little break to look forward to. If you're not a regular tea drinker, I love most chocolate-flavored teas such as those from Harney & Sons or Republic of Tea; for the past month or so I've been extremely loyal to Tazo's Wild Sweet Orange.

Drinking too much during quarantine?

We get it — we really do! These are some of our favorite mocktails and other “interesting” drinks that we drink instead during Dry January — you may also want to check out some of our recent discussions rounding up funny shows to deal with anxiety through laughter, reviewing apps for distance therapy, and generally deal with stress!

Some of these products may help if you're trying to moderate your drinking:

portion-controlled wine glasses

Pictured above, some ideas on how to moderate your drinking: Caloric Cuvee, [sold out] but similar) and Wine-Trax; all $9-$19 at Amazon. I've also talked about how much I love the beautiful cocktail glasses from The History Company because they're generally smaller!
