Beauty Empties: Which Products Do You Actually Finish

4/15/26 Update: both Sephora and Ulta have big sales going on right now!

Ladies, what beauty products do you use so often that you get “empties,” where you actually get to the bottom of the lipstick or jar, and what do you buy again and again?

I tend to rotate among so many different products that I almost never get to the bottom of anything, let alone say “I definitely need THAT again, right this instant.”

Still, even I have my regular items that I buy again and again, so I thought I'd round up my beauty empties. Hopefully everyone will share their own lists!

Update: There were so many great comments from readers on things they loved (that were new to me) we decided to put them into the post also, both for ease of browsing as well as easy linking when there's a big sale afoot or you're trying to make the most of a Triple Points day… :)

I also did a few reviews of things I'd bought after reading readers' recommendations, including Sunday Riley Good Genes, The Ordinary's caffeine solution, and more…

Skincare Products I've Bought Again and Again

2025 Update: Here's my latest skincare routine! I use a peptide serum, then Vitamin C, then my moisturizer, then sunscreen. (I save my prescription tretinoin for before bed.) I also occasionally use this BHA, this overnight mask, this 20-minute mask, and this 1-5 minute mask. (Never all at once!) When my skin is feeling especially dry I do like this snail essence paired with this crazy rich cream.

Psst: As of 2026, these are some of Kat's favorite hair products (she largely follows curly hair routines)… but she loves this brush/blowdryer! (Want an upgrade? Try this one.)

(I'm probably somewhere between 2C/3A wavy/curly right now, but I'm more interested in avoiding sulfates because of the keratin treatments I've started getting.)

Makeup I've Actually Used to the Bottom and Then Bought More

Those are mine — which are your beauty empties, readers?A neutral colored lotion inside a jar

As of 2026, my short makeup routine is pretty boring — curled eyelashes + concealer + blush (NARS Orgasm) + eyebrow + powder, with a different lipstick and eyeliner depending on my mood. If I'm feeling extra fancy I'll add mascara, highlighter, and/or do my brows with this cream and a brush similar to this one (here's my review). (I also add eye shadows in the “extra” days but it's a huge variety, maybe 25 or so different ones.)

Some favorite lipglosses and lipsticks include Dior Addict Lip Glow, NARS gloss (Orgasm, Fast Lane), Clinique Chubby Sticks and Clinique (Black Honey). I use this NYX lipliner (Natural) for almost all of them. For more color I like MERIT's Millennial pink and Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk.

My favorite blushes as of 2026 include liquid and cream blushes like Youthforia, MILK, and NARS the Multiple, as well as powders like Diorshow’s Backstage Rosy Glow and NARS (in Orgasm). I also have NARS's liquid blush in three different colors.

My favorite eyeliners as of 2026: Chanel (Espresso), Urban Decay (Sabbath, Smoke), and a lot of brown and black options from the drugstore like NYX. I also love this Bobbi Brown eyeshadow liner for days without mascara, something about it feels soft yet complete.

  1. Late to the party, but had to chime in with a recommendation for Trader Joe’s. They have really upped their health and beauty game in the last few years. Their moisturizer with sunscreen, in the white bottle, absorbs quickly and doesn’t smell sunscreen-y. They have a nice rose water toner, too. The hand creams in the metal tubes can’t be beat, for price, scent, or performance. Check out their beauty Advent calendar for trial sizes of many regulars plus seasonal treats.
