Travel back in the Corporette time capsule… Here's what was on our minds oh so many moons ago. |
One year ago…
- We ran a poll on collared shirts and blazers: do the collars go out or in?
- We offered some advice on how to rock a white blazer (without looking like you work in a a laboratory).
Two years ago…
- Tool of the Trade: Leechblock
- Awww, cute: we offer some thoughts on the sample sale sites, as they existed back in the dark days of 2008. (We're sure they took our advice to kill the music and other things that hurt the “I'm working, really” experience.)
- We pointed readers to a “Women at the Top” special that had been posted online (still there as of today), as well as to one of Sarah Haskins's first videos, introducing us to the “I Have a Masters But Then I Got Married” demographic.
So on the subject of white blazers, any recommendations on a cute one for work that is available in stores now? Looking for a basic white blazer without frills, ruffles, ruching, etc. The ones I saw at Banana and AT Loft had some frills going on, which I don’t want.
I saw some basic ones on the Talbots website if their fit works for you.
I got a great one at the Ann Taylor Factory Store. Will is last years? Probably not. But a white blazer probably wouldn’t have survived years on me anyway.
I bought the Loft one with the frills. They’re sewn in in a way that you can EASILY take them out with a seam ripper. For the price, it was totally worth it to me. I’m keeping the ruffles this year and then taking them out at the end of the summer. I love it and have gotten complements on it and the fit.
I bought a Loft short-sleeved shirt with a bunch of flowers around the neckline on the right side. They didn’t look nice after the first wash and I cut them out, figuring I might as well give it a try rather than never wear the shirt again. They came out neatly and now I wear the shirt as a solid basic!
Thanks all. Talbots is not my style, but I will check out AT and AT Loft again. I didn’t think about taking out the ruffles on the AT Loft jacket, but that’s a good idea as long as it can be done easily.
Can you do 3/4 sleeve? I just bought a Halogen blazer at the Nordstrom sale that doesn’t have any ruching/frills. It’s cotton, so it’s something I can dress up or down as needed.
Loving leechblock! Thanks for posting it!
Off topic but I just saw an intern wearing the black AT dress featured yesterday. It was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too short & not even remotely appropriate.
That yogurt video is HILARIOUS.
True that. I can’t see Jamie Lee Curtis anymore without thinking about it.
