Sure, we all know what wardrobe essentials for work professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.
A ton of our Plus-Size Hall of Fame items are blouses, but I don’t think we’ve done a roundup — so here is a quick rundown of the best plus-size workwear blouses!
In the past we’ve talked about important issues such as how to keep white blouses white, some DIY options for gaping blouses, when to tuck your blouse, whether the collar goes out or in, what color camisole to wear beneath a white blouse, and 10 things to know about wearing button-front blouses. We’ve also rounded up the best blouses for women with large breasts, if this is your issue!

Best Plus-Size Tees for Work
These are great layering pieces if you’re having a more casual day…

A Closer Look at some of Our Favorite Plus-Size Blouses
While we’ve pictured some of our favorite washable jersey tees above (and a great layering option for a more casual day!), “the blousy tee” is always a nice option for less casual days. It’s a bit silkier/fancier than a jersey T-shirt but without the gaping/ironing problems of a collared shirt. The Lands’ End one above comes in a zillion colors; this similar style is great. (Lands’ End in general is a great brand for this kind of style.)
Other brands to keep an eye on for these elevated T-shirt blouses include Vince Camuto, Halogen, Talbots, Boden (up to 20/22) and Ravella (up to 20/22). (ModCloth and Old Navy also have some good options sometimes!)
The NYDJ popover blouse has been a reader favorite and bestseller for a zillion years now — it’s machine washable and comes in a zillion colors and sizes at Nordstrom and Amazon. It can be a little bit on the more casual side, but it’s a great option to wear by itself.
Vince Camuto makes some similar items — their rumple satin option is particularly popular.
If you’re looking for a crisp, collared blouse for women in plus sizes, Universal Standard’s Elbe blouse is a nice option that’s been around for years now, available in sizes 00–40. I particularly like that it’s essentially a popover — the placket only goes halfway down, which means you don’t need to worry about gaping buttons on your tummy.
Some other nice options for plus-size collared shirts for women include non-iron options like Foxcroft, Ralph Lauren, Talbots, and Lands’ End.

If you want a sleek, tucked-in look (GREAT with voluminous pants or a flared skirt), bodysuits are back in style and can be a really sophisticated option.
They tend to be on the trendier side, so specific items will come and go, but good spots to check include Eloquii (pictured above), as well as J.Crew Factory, Madewell, ASOS, and Venus. (You may also want to check out our whole post on the best bodysuits for work outfits.)
