Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Sigerson Morrison’s Purple Pumps

by C March 23, 2009 Fashion

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.
Sigerson Morrison - Sm9188 (Purple) - Footwear
Our love of purple shoes is well documented, and even though it’s late in the season we would still buy these purple suede shoes, on sale right now at Zappos. (The black pair is also on sale, and amazingly they’re still available in a lot of sizes.) We like the delicate starburst pattern on the vamp of the shoe, and the hint of toe cleavage. They’d be perfect for an outfit based in black, navy or gray, and we’d wear them with pretty much any other color for accent (blue or red if you want to be more traditional, green or yellow if you want to take more of a risk.) They were $499; now on sale for $268. Sigerson Morrison – Sm9188 (Purple) – Footwear

Weekly Roundup

by C March 20, 2009 Fashion

Liking these posts? Follow Corporette on Twitter — this is the edited version of what we’re reading! (We also Tweet if we hear about a good sale.)

- Lots of blazer news this week: SheFinds gives you advice on what to wear with a blazer. Meanwhile, other outlets are on to NEXT season’s trend (apparently) — blazers with very, very strong shoulders. WhoWhatWear advises how to wear it, while Fashionista wonders whether Mary-Kate Olsen or Anna Della Russo (fashion director at large for Vogue Nippon) wore a strong-shouldered Balmain dress better. (And, hello! The jacket pictured at left — by Aryn K — is only $82.)

- Forbes advises how to date when you work all the time. (See our own dating advice here!)

- We thought we’d alert you to this series by Patricia Handschiegel over on The Huffington Post — she’s been writing about various aspects of the new “power girls” — the latest is all about how they like to discuss business over meals or drinks. [TheHuffPo] Meanwhile, The Glass Hammer is reporting that more women business owners are turning to coffee dates in this economy. [The Glass Hammer]

- Finally: The Daily Obsession raves about a new apparatus for your hair, The Clever Clip. We’ve already ordered a set and will let you know how it goes! [The Daily Obsession]

Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: Spiegel’s Signature Relaxed Tweed Collection: Blazer

It took us forever this morning to find something for under $50 that we wanted to wear — have designers heard there’s, like, a recession on? In any event, we like this relaxed blazer from Spiegel. It’s definitely got a tweedy-type pattern, so we would only wear this with solid colors, like a black shift dress to work or a black t-shirt with dark jeans on the weekend. (This drapes a bit too much to really work as a “suit” — it’s definitely on the more casual side — but there is a matching pencil skirt, as well as a long skirt, if you’d like to complete the look that way, too.) It’s $50 at Spiegel.com. Signature Relaxed Tweed Collection: Blazer

DKNY 3/4 Sleeve Cropped JacketThe 20% off 70% sale rolls on at ShopBop (today’s the last day!) and we couldn’t resist going to see what we could get for less than $100. Our pick for today is this lovely DKNY cropped jacket. Yes, it’s getting a wee bit late in the season for it, but this look has been around for years and will surely be around next fall, as well. We like it worn with a shaped shift dress, or with a long tank or tee and a pencil skirt or trousers. Was $395, now $90 (!!) with the code “20Off70″. DKNY 3/4 Sleeve Cropped Jacket

iconWe love this cotton cardigan from Theory — it’s 95% conservative with just a dash of fun bright yellow thrown in. The buttons! The tipping! And a wee bit of stretch in the cotton so it holds its shape! Gorgeous. We’d wear this baby with black trousers or perhaps a navy sheath dress or skirt. (There’s an even moe traditional version available in a pretty purple with navy detailing.) It’s $120 at Nordstrom.com. Theory ‘Julyn – Stay’ Tipped Cardigan

by C March 17, 2009 Fashion

We’ve been seeing lots of reports of trends and — as is far too common! — we’ve been rolling our eyes at the prospect of wearing any of them to work. We thought we’d take a poll…

First up: a brief overview of some of the trends we’ve seen reported in multiple places.
