Ruthie shirtdressiconJ.Crew recently added this cute shirt dress to the mix, and I really like it — the nipped-in waist, the pleated skirt, even the half-placket.  I wish the skirt were a bit longer (according to J.Crew’s customer service, the size 8 has a 19.25″ skirt length) — but still, it’s a lovely dress with a vintage feel. I like it best in the dark navy, but the “heather saddle” (pictured) and “gatsby green” are also nice. It’s $118 at JCrew.com. Ruthie shirtdress

Origami sheath dress in wool crepeToday I’m loving this origami sheath dress in one of J.Crew’s suiting materials, wool crepe. The slight A-line skirt — the cap sleeves — the high neckline — the beautiful folds at the neck — it all seems really lovely. It’s available in four colors (charcoal, pictured, as well as a light gray “cool dusk,” a beige “morning fog,” and a “decadent red”) at J.Crew for $188. Origami sheath dress in wool crepe

J.Crew has a ton of cute dresses out right now, including this lovely “boardroom dress,” available in coral and navy. I like the banded waist, the fold details, and the high neckline. It’s $158 at J.Crew (all sizes still left, as far as I can tell).  Boardroom dress in superfine cotton

Accordion dress in Super 120sThis dress intrigues me. I like the accordion pleats, as well as the high, U-shaped neckline trimmed in silk, and I like the fact that it’s made of J.Crew’s suiting wool — the whole effect takes what might be a schoolgirl-ish skirt and turns it into an interesting dress. To avoid the schoolgirl look, though, I would probably stick to black tights — perhaps even tall boots, if those are acceptable at your office. On top, I’d keep it simple with a tight-fitting silk cardigan, perhaps with an interesting belt over the entire ensemble. Readers, how would you wear it? It’s $225 at J.Crew (available in dark heather gray, pictured, and a much lighter “warm buff”). Accordion dress in Super 120s

Moss tweed pencil skirtJ.Crew has a number of cute tweed pencil skirts right now. We like this one, “crafted in a deliciously nubby navy and green tweed with touches of purple throughout” — allegedly inspired by Vermeer. As with any tweed, we’d wear it with a smoother fabric on top — perhaps a blouse or a lightweight cardigan or sweater. The skirt is $118 at JCrew.com. Moss tweed pencil skirt

J.Crew Canterbury bells pencil skirtWe’re in a pencil skirt kind of mood today, and we’re loving this on-trend skirt from J.Crew — florals continue to be everywhere, and we like the lovely pattern on this (inspired by “a vintage scarf the designers fell in love with”) and the basket-weave cotton.  We’d go for a tone-on-tone look and wear it with a navy top and, perhaps, a navy blazer or sweater.  It’s $98 at J.Crew.
