An etiquette question … I just accepted an offer for a new job (formally this morning!) and I’m wondering when is the right time to make it public. (great position, a move up with good salary) Do I tell people now or wait for my first week? I am currently on sabbatical so this isn’t an issue of informing my employer and co-workers.
My instinct is to wait. However, I’d like to thank my references and take them out to lunch in the next week and a half as the job is way out in the suburbs and my references are downtown. It will be difficult to touch base with them in person once I get started. (and I want to dance on rooftops as I’m so excited about the opportunity)
Thanks in advance for your advise!
Do you want to know when to tell your references and take them out to lunch or when to post it on facebook? I’d say you can tell your references now but don’t go facebook official until you start.
I’m not really worried about Facebook or LinkedIn for that matter – that can wait until I’ve been there at least a week. A new job never feels real until the first couple days/weeks and it seems early to tell anyone … and I’m probably overthinking it.
I will see if they are available for lunch in the next week or so. Thanks for your reply!
