New Mother's "Friend"
So I’m going to put this conundrum out to the group for advice. When a friend said she was pregnant I was super happy for her and bought her a few gifts from her baby registry. A few months passed and I found out that she had had her baby shower (to which I wasn’t invited). So, over the next few months, I asked her several times if we could get together for lunch, coffee, etc. like we occasionally did in the past (so that I could give her the gifts), but she declined saying she was busy, etc. So, finally, knowing that her baby was coming soon, I asked if she could let me know when she was free because I had these gifts I wanted to give her before the baby came (as they are something she could use right away). She responded with an LOL. Another month passed and I just got a text showing that the baby has arrived. Clearly now her hands are full. I feel like such an idiot. What the heck do I do with these stupid gifts?
Alice
Sorry this happened.
Return for store credit to be used for someone else having a baby down the road? Donate to local woman’s shelter?
Anonymous
+ 1 for donation to local women’s shelter.
Sorry your friend was rude.

I hope you repost in the afternoon thread, bc I am dying to hear what ppl have to say about the “LOL” response. This actually just happened to me when asking a friend about when she was free to make plans (no pregnancy or gifts involved). I had no idea this was an appropriate response to a direct question… is that a thing!?I was insulted and would be even more so if I was OP!
Meredith Grey
oops sorry, meant for “Friend”

I’d be irritated.

Another one of my new associate questions:
I desperately need a wardrobe update. I have two well-fitted (tailored) skirt suits that fit me well, but after losing weight between my summer associate days and now, I am down to just a couple of skirts and a few (like 4!) shells, and maybe one pair of pants (plus a pair of suit pants that I kind of hate and never fit me that well, but that I purchased because that’s what you do as a 1L, haha). My secondary market firm is business casual.
I really did not think I had lost this much weight, but this week has been hell. Nothing fits me (I tried on a skirt and pair of pants and could pull them off without unbuttoning) and the few dresses I have worn this week are way too summery and make me look super young and like I am on my way to class (with heels on).
I am going shopping for clothes, but I need to maximize my dollars. I am thinking about hitting up the outlet mall for J.Crew Factory, The Limited, Loft, Ann Taylor, but since I have a tiny budget (currently aggressively paying off credit card debt), I would also like to hit up T.J. Maxx/Marshall’s, etc. What should I get? How do I make my bucks go a long way?
