Burned Out
Biglaw in secondary market mid-level associate. Feeling super duper burned out, which has results in fairly low hours this month and b/c of being OOO in January, I’m just low on hours generally, though I have plenty of work to do, though nothing on fire just yet. I was the second highest biller in my group, so not worried about overall opinions on my work by way of being slow these two months, but recognize that I have to get it together at some point. Currently in a market that is snowed in, so not much to do that I normally like to to keep sane–walks, sitting in the sun, etc.
How do I reset my attitude/self? I recognize that there is just a lot of general fatigue b/c of the pandemic, but I am getting good sleep and have a wonderful and supportive SO. I’m just over work and any responsibility. It doesn’t help that SO’s job is the complete opposite of mine, so SO has a ton of free time, had Monday off, etc. I am going for a snow walk with the dog and trying to log off at a normal time, but I’m just so burned out. My biggest concern is that things will pick/heat up soon and I’ll have zero in the tank from having been burned out these weeks when things were slow. Because of procrastination and not being in the mood to do anything, I am putting things off until later in the day and so my days are loooong and it’s not helping! It’s also demoralizing to sit a 12 hour day and bill 5 hours, maybe.
I go to therapy and have a great group of partners in my corner. I work out regularly too. I just need some tips on managing the burnout! I know it happens from time to time in this type of role and I seem unable to handle it with the pandemic and cooped up at home situation.
